Chuck Martin should get an extension

We’re 9-2, probably soon to be 10-2, we’ve already clinched a conference championship game spot, and people are arguing about whether our coach who has one year left on his contract deserves an extension?

I’d like to see how the first drive against ball state goes.

Score = extension
3 and out = fired

What about one first down and then a punt?

I can’t get over the fact we have.a D1 QB who can’t pass the football.

Well, we’re 8-4 with him starting, including road wins against a Big 10 team and a 9 win Ohio team.

The Dayton paper actually had two articles on Miami football today!! One was a game preview by Mark Smeltzer and the other was by Tom Archdeacon featuring former Miami player and current grad assistant Chris Hudson. That article needs to be linked on this thread as it is just another reason why we need to keep Chuck for another decade or two.

Great article. Speaks well of CM, his family and the program.

Great article!

Does that mean you think AV is why we won those games?

Last year, when we were not as good, the 5 games we won with Aveon at QB were primarily because of him. This year Chuck has decided to make him a game manager for the most part and allow the special teams and defense to make the plays that actually win the games. Aveon has done his part and Coach Martin’s plan has been working.

We need to prioritize keeping our Special Teams coach and Defensive Coordinator. I said before, the importance of good assistant coaches can’t be emphasized enough.

QB coach also.

I agree, although if we lost Brechin, I would like to see Chuck go back to the defensive side. Let Welsh or Ragland call the plays. CM definitely seems more comfortable on that side of the ball.

I was on the sideline that game he was injured. It was a tough scene (& awful FCS loss). James Gardner ended up shining that season but my goodness, in spring ball & fall camp, Huddy was truly unstoppable. He was massive & caught everything. He would have been a serious problem for the rest of the MAC

If you want to argue Rashad Amos scored on the first play after the lengthy injury timeout for an ambulance to take Brett Gabbert off the field it is only fair to note Rashad Amos was held to only one yard on the first and goal play just before Brett was injured.

While it’s never been publicly disclosed it sounds like Brett suffered an injury similar to the one that ended Joe Theismann’s career in 1985. Joe Theismann was not running a QB draw at the goal line when his leg was broken. He was on the 50 yard line and dropping back to pass when Lawrence Taylor broke his leg. Bottom line is both Brett Gabbert’s and Joe Theismann’s fractures were freak injuries that are an unfortunate part of football. To blame Chuck for Brett’s freak injury is ridiculous.

That Archdeacon article about Hudson and Chuck should be Exhibit 1 to show any parent of a recruited athlete that if Chuck says he is going to take care of their son he ain’t blowing smoke like many coaches are.

LaxDaddy–very, very true. It was a pretty cool article and Coach M went way above and beyond the norm or what might be expected.

I’m sure he has his detractors too but when you’re coach you have to make some tough decisions. Not everyone is going to like them.

That is unreasonable, with QB1 on the DL.
