Chuck Martin says “Alabama stole our kicker”

Why is the NW game a “must win”? He called out Alabama, not NW. We’re playing a Big 10 team, on the road (yes, in a BS “stadium”). We’re the underdog. We aren’t supposed to win. I believe we will, but it seems like the two situations are apples and oranges. No relationship at all.

I agree and have posted the same sentiment about CM being ready to back up his accusation. That goes without saying. Something happened between CM’s QB position video and his rant. In the position video, he was very supportive of Graham and what he accomplished. He was not negative in any way, towards Graham or what happened regarding Alabama. He was, as far as I have seen, never been negative to or about Graham. But there was a change. Maybe he learned something from one of the players about what went down. I doubt we will ever know.

Good for him. He tells it the way he sees it, like many others.

You always need to be aware - when being interviewed - that you can easily let your mouth write checks your body can’t cash. I think Terry was awkwardly trying to keep that from happening. The piece could have been edited or re-taped. That tells me somebody up the line must have Ok’d its release.

Yeah, Terry Bridge is not a reporter, he is an employee of Miami and his goal in this situation was to protect Coach, not wring every drop of information out of him. There are plenty of actual reporters around who could interview Chuck and press him to reveal what the illegality was, that would be their job.

Accordingly, I think Terry should have turned off the mic and had an off camera conversation with CM to be certain everyone was aware of the repercussions of proceeding.

Why would he question the head coach of the team that would know 100 times better what really happened.

Who cares wtf Alabama thinks about this. They are out to screw us at every chance they get

I didn’t say challenge the head coach. As a PR professional it pays to proceed cautiously when creating a release that is going to reflect on the organization. That’s called due diligence. Make sure everyone is in agreement with what’s going out on behalf of the University.

I basically agree. However, I think in this situation, Chuck has earned the right to speak his mind when something has an impact, especially if it’s a negative, about the team.

I don’t think Chuck gives a crap. I still find it amusing that Bama fans threw a hissy fit when Graham beat out their boy last season for the Groza (and deservedly so) and then they fell all over themselves when the supposedly undeserving MAC kicker moves down there.

Perhaps so. But I got a feeling that the way it exploded on the national media scene without apparent advance warning might have blindsided the Miami Administration. If it was vetted, fine. If not it was a loose canon piece.

Was there any denial from Alabama?………….

Yes. They casually dismissed the accusation out of hand.

Their coach just said Nicholson entered the portal, we made an offer, and he signed. In other words, nothing to see here.

There’s no expectation that Bama would admit to this, there’s no expectation that any enforcement body will do anything either. Chuck did what he did through Miami’s own marketing apparatus.

In the scheme of college controversy and hysteria this is minuscule.

Who is Graham’s agent? That is how this crap works. Just say’in.

I don’t even understand why it’s a national story that he said this. Obviously Alabama tampered, obviously they can’t admit they tampered, and everyone knows both of those things are obviously happening all over. This is small potatoes.

The NFL uses Microsoft Surface tablets to allow their players to review plays and to learn right after a play or possession what went right or wrong. Instant learning thru visualization.

Here’s my question for Coach Martin. And keep in mind, after his defense of Miami football being raided for their kicker, I know he’s 100% behind his guys succeeding and winning and success with Miami. So I’m not doubting him, it’s just a thought. In other schools throughout Miami, students are given the opportunity to work and learn how to use various pieces of physical equipment in a lab, work site, or learn essential software skills that businesses look for on resumes.

When college football players enter the NFL they need to learn how to use the Microsoft Surface technology in addition to learning the playbook. If college football players are given the opportunity to utilize a similar piece of technology, in this case iPad, to be able to view previous plays, then this could cut down on a barrier to entry that some college football players experience when getting a Microsoft Surface handed to them.

With what could be the preexisting skills of knowing how to use handheld digital review devices before entering an NFL training camp, there could be the chance for players who wouldn’t make the league to now make it. Maybe this is something that was keeping some great players from making the leagues. Not knowing how to use the technology.

Does the iPad take away previous coaching skills and knowledge? No. The iPad just allows for more individual information to be viewed by players. The iPad is an adjunct to the coaching knowledge being passed on.

I’m not sure I agree with his. I think Chuck’s point is that the in-game aspect of coaching is being cheapened by the use of devices like iPads. I’m guessing Chuck feels like he has an advantage on some coaches because he’s very proficient in the X’s and O’s of the game. He can watch the game with his own two eyes, process what strategical changes need to occur, and then implement those changes in real time. For him, that’s an edge that can be the difference in games. But now, coaches who maybe aren’t as adept at making those changes, are given a crutch by being able to watch game film as it occurs. Making it much easier to see what adjustments need to occur.

To be clear, Miami is going to use the iPads. So it’s not like our athletes won’t be given all of the available tools. I just think Chuck, as we all know, is an old school coach and doesn’t agree all change is good.
