Biggest surprise on D

I really thought we’d see more of Kuwatch. Given his impressive HS career and time with OSU, I was surprised not to see him in the mix.

CM has made a conscience effort to focus on this season. He doesn’t care about reps for backups. So far, I can’t argue with that philosophy. Washington Redskins coach George Allen was famous for the phrase “ The future is now”. I think Chuck as adopted that philosophy. Let’s see how it goes.

I admire your precision in post and diplomacy. Both are lost arts.

We have played two MAC games and have not allowed a touchdown and your biggest surprise is that a former walk on at Ohio State is only playing special teams?

I also disagree that we arent playing a lot of guys. We play at least 7 defensive lineman. We play about 4 linebackers in our 4-2-5 and we certainly
Mix up the safety positions. Only Salopek-Warren and the two corners play every play

On offense we play 4 rbs including Davis and at least 4 receivers. We play 3 tight ends. We even rotate Jackson with the oline. We dont sub the qb but nobody with a clear #1 does that

I think Coach Martin has always considered about 20 guys to be his “ones” on defense and about the same number for the offense. We do rotate at most positions, but he definitely tends to not sub at QB, usually only when it gets to kneel down time. Sometimes there are a couple of guys that he considers so good that they do not get rotated out.

I have long been a big supporter of Coach and I feel that this season is justifying that belief in him. However, I did yell at him twice Saturday to put in Aveon with abut 5 or 6 minutes to go. If he heard me, I am sure he thought" what do these guys want? We are shutting out a good team."

I have felt that we were close to breaking through for several seasons, but the Covid seasons and then the Gabbert injury seasons have kept that from happening. So far this is looking like it actually could be the break through season. Before we had the 3 year run from 1973 to 1975, We went 5 years of 6-4 or 7-3. People were grumbling, but thank goodness we stuck with Coach Mallory.

You know you’re scraping the bottom of the barrel when playing time for 3rd and 4th stringers is the complaint.

I must have missed that. I didn’t see anyone complaining.

I don’t consider playing two’s or three’s that rotate in every game. We have several RBs and defensive players that don’t start but get lots of game action. I am referring to players that have been on the team 2-3 years with little to no live game reps. I also was not complaining. I think CM is going for it this year and it’s working. I think if you flipped back to this time last year, most of you CM fans now were calling for his head. I was not one of them. I took a beating on this page for telling you to be patient, for supporting CM.

I like Chuck. Glad he’s finding success. Part of that is because he’s had time to establish a true program.

Yes. Given his size and HS accomplishments, I thought he would have been able to brake into the 2 deep at a minimum (if not start). So I am surprised. Nothing to do with coaching, player rotation, or anything like that. The best players play. This isn’t high school.

His offers coming out of high school were Eastern Illinois, Lake Erie College, and Findlay. I’m sure he had a good high school career, but everyone at this level did. Hope he’s able to contribute on defense during his career here. But for now, it’s special teams.

Sometimes you don’t know who the best players are until they get in a game. Just sayin’.

You don’t really know that. 247 Sports, Rivals, ESPN , on3 etc…… Rarely m, if ever, have all offers listed. They do the best they can but it’s not a perfect system.

I’m going off of his social media, where he shared the offers he received

And if you’re putting him the in 2 deep, who are you taking out?

You may be right about this. Not only does the buyout shrink considerably after this season, the Northwestern (and to a lesser extent the MSU job) are open. It also looks like the Indiana job might be open soon, as well. If there was ever a year to move his program beyond mid-major mediocrity, this is it. The win at UC might have been the catalyst he was searching for.

I thought Tom Allens buyout was like 20 million this year and drops next year. My guess is he will stay thru next year.

Maybe. I just know the end is near in Bloomington. I still think the CM target job is Northwestern. Beating them up there last season helped his visibility with them - and there have been no scandals at Miami.

I think that’s exactly what happened. Just to be clear, I have no problem kicking all the ass we can this year. I had been frustrated with the lack of development of QBs receivers and even some DBs. I get it though and I’m all in now.

This is obviously the Martin era’s fish or cut bait year. We’re going to try to win big - meaning 10-13 games -exclusively with Brett while keeping Aveon in reserve.
