Bethany College Prediction Friday!

While Dick is scanning his atlas, trying to find Bethany, I’ll fill in. Private liberal arts college near Wheeling, West Virginia. Fun fact - they seem to have only one player from WV. Most from Pittsburgh area and southeast Ohio. D3 team, star player junior Cole Dailey is a double double machine. On four game losing streak after losing to Thiel College Tuesday night.

Famous Bethany alumni include pro wrestler Troy Allan Martin, known as Shane Douglas.

The Franchise!

Aunt Bethany wrapped up her cat and gave it to Clark as a Christmas gift. Sadly, it would end up being that cat’s last Christmas when it learned a hard lesson about the power of electricity.

I predict a big win, lots of minutes for guys who haven’t gotten many thus far, and a team that’s ready to go to Vermont and get a win

Let Yofan play a bunch of minutes…he’s a Pittsburgh kid.

Considering that they score a lot of points and almost beat PSU-Beaver…It could get hairy at times, but we win 108-68.

72-54. Bisons come in on a mission after losing to Thiel.

This could be a very high-scoring game. They lost 128-60 against their only other D1 opponent (YSU), and they’re averaging 91ppg. I’m thinking we win by something like 102-71.

Miami 106 Bethany 66

Gonna use this as the game thread too. Good to see Craft starting hot. Offense looks a bit sloppy, but the movement is getting better. Woolfolk looking very active.

Also, Bethany plays a tight matchup zone. Getting some experience against something else.

Byers comes in and goes 4-4 from 3. He’s one of the best shooters on the team in practice. Seems like he started slow after not seeing game action for an entire year. Maybe this will kickstart him.

I know there are some economic factors in play to fill out schedules, but I always wonder the value of playing opponents like this. I guess its more or less a high intensity practice but are there not Division II schools that could give us a bit more of a real game?

As a coach, I would absolutely want a few games like this. An engaged bench is more engaged at practice. I would want a few games where I know I can get minutes for all of my guys - and hopefully extended minutes for the guys who get less minutes.

Yup. The goal isn’t competition. And the talent gap between D2, D3, and NAIA can be pretty minimal. This game is:

  • we haven’t played in 10 days
  • the players just had finals
  • there are no students on campus
  • you play Vermont in 3 days and don’t want dead legs
  • you expect at this point there are a couple guys you want to find their confidence before getting into conference play (Craft, Byers, Potter)

It works well for what it is.
