Looked like he gave up on a few plays too
Navarro scrambling and running vs Finn was night and day. Someone mentioned he may be avoiding contact after the concussions and such, and that may be, but he’s only an elite talent when he’s a threat to run as he’s not a good enough passer. He needs to be going upfield, not side to side.
He was very slow on his decision making when deciding to run or where to run. Taking losses on runs on the outside instead of throwing it away. That interception isn’t one to make for a 7 year college guy
Before we go too hard on Finn on the interception did Ringer run the right route? Even if he did not run the right route however Finn has to see the tight coverage and either run up field or find another receiver. My biggest complaint re the coaching tonight ( and for the last 6/7 years i ) is that we are too impatient and often we never seem to get any rhythm on offense - we give up on the run way too quickly esp given the talent of Brunson and Jones. Again however as I said earlier the players lost this game not the coaches and they need to recover big time for Toledo.
I dunno, in 1993 Ohio won, and in 1999 Ohio won, so many of the same guys on those 1995 and 1997 and 1998 teams lost to OU. Guess they’re a bunch of modern-day fucking losers too.
A lot of the guys on this current team also won a MAC championship 2 years ago, which not one guy from any of those 90s teams managed to accomplish.
A lot of us here are of a Miami vintage where you just expected OU to suck every year. That hasn’t been the case for a long time. They’ve been good under three coaches in a row; that’s the sign of a program that has been rebuilt correctly.
On the broadcast last night, I learned that the Bobcats have lost only once at Peden in the last four seasons (to Miami). Last night stunk and it was disappointing to see untimely mental errors that I thought this program had left behind, but we played a good MACTION squad to the wire at a place that has become a fortress. Miami’s task now is to clean up the mistakes and keep things alive for Detroit while, longer term, trying to figure out how to make Oxford as tough a road game as Athens has become.
I also thought the espn crew was pretty good last night. Matvich seemed to know all the players and a lot of the history and Daniel rightly criticized both teams offenses for being too conservative in the first half. There was very little mention of the college football playoff even though the first rankings came out
I’m glad you mentioned that. I joked around over at Big Dumb Tailgate (the old EDSBS commentariat site) that Daniel was getting MACTION as rookie hazing, but he impressed me. He was insightful, not afraid to criticize in an analytical way, and laser focused on the game on the field. I mute the halftime show because I don’t care about the “playoff” and can’t stand the constant chatter about it, but the actual game broadcast was about as good as an ESPN MACTION production has been in years.
I want to first of all thank Miami football for ruining the high I was on over the start to Miami men’s and women’s basketball. Seriously. This lackluster performance put a damper on the week for me.
Secondly, I want to point out that much like the first half against WMU, Miami completely ignored involving Shane, the TE, in the game. Except this time it was for the entire game. I don’t believe one pass was thrown his way. Shane has come through time and again when they call his number. Why our play caller forgets about certain players is beyond me. Just like how Jones was nonexistent last night. I called for Brunson to run as many others did on the goal line, but that was because we didn’t even insert Jones in the game.
Coaches don’t execute the plays, players do. And we had several plays last night that just shouldn’t happen. As outstanding as Trick has been that facemask was a killer. There were others, I won’t rehash them. But coaches are responsible for putting players in the best position to win, and truthfully, OU’s coaching staff did a better job of that last night than our staff.
Trick is our best player and his motor is constantly running. It sucks because it was unintentional but the facemask was the difference maker.
I don’t think not going to a guy averaging 1 catch a game is a major contributor to our loss IMO
I was there with 10 other (highly decorated) football officials. No one could believe the dipshit white hat just ignored the obvious hold on Navarro’s dumb throw/miracle touchdown pass. Worst officials in the world in the MAC.
OU fans are assholes.
We’ll smoke their ass in Detroit when it actually matters.
Absolutely it contributes. Everything contributes. The TE is a weapon we failed to utilize. Essentially we took a bullet out of the gun. The fact he only has one catch a game isn’t Shane’s fault. When called on, he has produced.
I know its not Shane’s fault but failing to throw one ball to the TE isn’t the reason we lost. We never utilize the TE so I didn’t expect anything different last night
And I was going to add to my post but since you responded, it also eliminates a position they have to defend. I didn’t say it was THE SOLE REASON we lost. I said it was a contributing factor.
I thought for sure they were going to throw the flag. I know they say you can call holding on every play but that was obvious
Agree to that Bluesman
I am tired of bitching about refs. Seriously. They sucked last night. MAC refs always suck. Go into every game assuming they are going to suck and miss calls. I commented during the game I am surprised they can find the stadium. Best thing is to not put yourself in position if possible to where their shitty calls and missed calls determine the final outcome. Not always possible, and there were several missed obvious holds on Miami defenders, but you do what you can.
And I want to give OU credit for that kickoff return for a TD. I don’t know if that was a called play or Bangura improvised, but it was brilliant and caught Miami completely off guard.
