Iowa is the most egregious team ranked ahead of us. Same amount of Q1 wins and less Q2 wins
Before the loss tonight, I would disagree. They were 14 in the NET and had double digit wins over UCLA, Xavier and Maryland. They won most of their Q4 games by 30+. Their only two losses were to top 10 teams, including a near win in Ames.
Common opponent, they beat Western by 40.
The national TV network feed is now sending Miami basketball highlights to all affiliates.
Forget about being ranked… THIS means that the program has truly arrived.
Yes, not making the Top 25 really stinks (btw I now follow all of the writers who did give us votes…a small way of saying thanks).
However…this team is so much fun to watch! I haven’t enjoyed watching MU basketball like this since the ‘98-99 team. We have so many kids who are dangerous from anywhere on the court. Byers, Atlason, Luke, and Peter are threats anytime they have the ball (not having Ipsaro really hurts). Elmer is starting to show us the star he can be. Woolfolk has been huge in the pain (and doesn’t scare me anymore when he shoots from behind the arc). Robbins comes in a gives quality minutes. Same with Waltz. Kirby comes out of nowhere and is playing great. Perry has shown signs of really good potential. Steele seems to genuinely love this team (and doesn’t say dumb stuff when interviewed). So much to like about this team. And they keep winning. Some of the games may not be pretty, but 16 straight wins is hard to do in any sport.
Not like Jim did, though.
With all the heat on Wes Miller when do we start hearing Steele’s name pop up for the presumable opening coming at UC?
Here’s a wild opinion but that’s my job, so here goes: UC is a terrible job. Has been since Bobby H left. First they had Andy Kennedy who did fine as an interm coach but they ran him off. He ended up at a SEC school (Old Miss) did well, (NCAA tourney multiple times) and is now at UAB where he was runner up NIT. Then they had Cronin and he’s a damn good coach but the fans thought he was just ok and made that clear so he left and got UCLA to the final 4. I actually think UC was a better job pre big 12. I can’t see a scenario where they jump from the middle of the PAC to the top of the heap. Houston is too tough. Iowa State. West Virginia. Texas Tech. It’s murders row. If he went there and couldn’t get it fixed ASAP the fans revolt. Like they have on Wes who is not a bad coach but will not win there. If he has a good run, my theory has always been he ends up at IU or OSU. He would do well in either situ. That said, yes, if we finish strong in March, yes, UC will call. They would be fools not to.
I don’t know if I’d call it a terrible job. Seems like they invest in the program but it’s a tough conference with a lot of travel and yes the fan base is fed up. Passing on Kennedy to hire Cronin was the right move and they never should have allowed him to leave. I don’t think the fans had anything to do with him going to UCLA, yes they tired over the annual first week tournament exits but at the end of the day UC just wouldn’t pony up the extra million or so to keep him.
Devries is having a good 1st year in Bloomington so hard to see that job opening for a while. UC would keep him at home and give him the opportunity to stick it to X once a year. It would be a risk for sure because failure likely means the end of his head coaching career if he’s not willing to leave the area but success and he’s the king of the city. I hope he doesn’t leave any time soon and he actually enjoys what he’s got going here.
There’s a lot of fan discontent there. They hate hoops and football coach and the AD. Not a good situ.
Baseball is probably the only sport they aren’t mad at. We will see if that continues come spring
Villanova who was ahead of us receiving votes lost
I saw Michigan beat Villanova by about 30 a couple weeks back.
Edit: granted, they’ve been killing everybody this season, but still. They made Villanova look really bad.
Gonzaga lost to them by like 40 to be fair
#24 SMU lose
You tried to warn them.
Since last poll: 18, 19, 20 (2x), 21, 22, 24, 25, 26, 28 (2x) have all lost. We were 30th by votes.
Clemson at 31 and St Louis at 32 have not lost.
LSU tied with SLU at 32 has lost as well as Texas at 34 and Florida at 35.
I really think we get there this week unless we just get totally disrespected.
Rank us or we riot
Or at least post messages disagreeing with the results.
Oh I’ll disagree so hard. I’ll disagree all over them.
Florida didn’t lose this week. They beat #18 Georgia. Clemson and SLU both had impressive wins. All 3 of those teams will pass us if they win today. Indiana will pass us if they beat Nebraska.
No team has cracked the top 25 this year without at least 79 vote points and we have 20. Only 13 of 61 voters had us in their poll and half these voters will dismiss us because of our schedule.
