Butler and Dayton are the regional jobs I would worry Travis leaves for. And yes, Dayton is a significantly better job than Miami. Grant has severely underachieved since the magical 19-20 season.
Butler makes sense because he’s an alum and Thad isn’t in it for the long haul.
UC will be open, but no way they hire a guy who failed to make a tourney at X.
I’m guessing there’s a subset of voters who just blindly look at kenpom and SOS and will refuse to rank us no matter what. If we keep winning, we’re going to wind up with both top 15 votes and ballots that don’t include us at all.
I think it just comes down to different ideology of how people do the poll. Some vote for it more as a “most deserving” list that is based more on wins and losses, while other vote for it more as a “power ranking” that is based more on metrics
Which is hilarious considering that Rothstein is likely going to be forced to talk about us a lot since we’re probably going to be flexed out to Friday night games in at least 3 of the 4 “MAC Wild Card” nights coming up starting in February.
Teams we should overtake: #19 Iowa - lost twice #24 SMU - lost twice #25 UCF - 1 loss. UC game today should be irrelevant #26 Villanova - went 1-1 #28 USC - went 1-1
Teams that should overtake us: #31 Clemson - two wins, including #24 SMU #32 SLU - two road wins, including VCU #35 Florida - two wins over ranked teams
Wisconsin - beat #44 UCLA and won at #2 Michigan
Other teams to worry about Miami (FL), Texas A&M, St John’s, Texas
I know rankings are mostly subjective, and the true goal should be dancing, but dang. It would sure be nice to have that little number in front of our name again.
