Travis is going to be a name that’s thrown out for pretty much any job opening between now and the end of the season. The vast majority of them (including Kansas State - which has money but is surrounded by a bunch of Big 12 giants…) are just going to be noise.
Put me down for a hoodie: “Screw the haters!Miami,OH athletics”
Doesn’t sUCks make the most sense for Travis, once they fire Wes Miller? I know money isn’t supposed to be a big issue for him, but D-1 coaches are still VERY driven folks, and UC does play at the highest level.
I certainly pray we can keep him! And hope he has developed a hatred for UC. But at least the geography seems to make this one fit
If he wants to go some place else, he will have plenty of opportunities to do that. If he wants to stay put, he also has the means where he doesn’t need to be chasing promotions. He has preached to his players that the grass isn’t always greener, and it’s often times better to stay in a good situation. He has said he would love to turn Miami into something special. He has said he loves coaching here. So yes, you will hear his name tied to lots of jobs, but just because some writer says he’s a potential candidate does not mean Steele is reciprocating. Just because I’m interested in Jessica Alba doesn’t mean she’s interested in me. I’m on record as saying I think he sticks around for a few more years, and think only one of the true blue bloods (Including Indiana) of college basketball will be able to lure him away, with probably Ohio State added to that list.
I certainly hope Steele stays. The way he has rebuilt our program is textbook during a time when the recruitment of freshmen players has fallen somewhat out of favor nationally. But it doesn’t help that there is an increasing likelihood 3 very significant D1 jobs in Ohio may be open next month - UC, Ohio State, and Dayton. Miller is reportedly paid $2.95 million, Diebler $2.5 million, and Grant $2.25 million, and they all have incentive add-ons. I have been personally told by one current D1 assistant coach who is very familiar with the MAC that Akron’s Groce is waiting on the Ohio State job to open up, and that he thinks Steele will be gone from Miami after this year. Probably just speculation, but it is going to take more than “good feelings” to hold onto Travis in Oxford.
Nothing personal, but any time I see negative, I have to post Chucky. You know the rules.
Probably be a hard sell for UC fans since he was at X and got fired there. Not sure you can sell the fans at sUCks to hire him. They most certainly view us a an inferior athletic school and view his success here as attributed to being in the MAC and can’t cut it at a better conference. Who knows though
I’m still going with the theory that Steele isn’t leaving the Cincinnati area anytime. I find it highly doubtful you can convince his wife to leave her family here in Cinci where she has lived her entire life and also their company and charitable foundation. His salary at Miami or wherever he goes is a tiny tiny fraction of her familys net worth. He’s got all the money he could want. They donated $25 mill give or take to Xavier in 2016 to build onto the Cintas Center.
Why The Athletic isn’t ranking us
I make excuses for being an idiot (fans and media) all the time, too.
I’m sticking to my formula too—by not ranking us it’s clear CJ Moore doesn’t know Ball
He also doesn’t know shit!
After what has transpired this week, I believe 12 Top 25 teams losing, I was curious, what is the highest a MAC team has every been ranked in the AP poll, and fittingly it is the 1953 Miami Redskins who were ranked #12. I will be shocked if we aren’t in the top 20 come this Monday, after we beat BG tomorrow night, and should be knocking on the door of top 15 if things were just, which we know for a mid major, they are not.
I believe you meant our highest ranking was #12?
If we beat BG, I say we move up to #19..
Corrected thanks. Typing too fast and inadequate proofreading!
Have to completely agree with Sack on this one.
First let’s win Friday then we can spend all weekend discussing our ranking.
Agree- keep our eyes on the prize - always and only the next game - ranking do not get us to the Dance - only winning and getting better - esp on D
