AP TOP 25

Yes. Imo playing at hostile environments (and winning) makes this team better, and gets them ready for Cleveland.

Forget Dick Vitale. I’d rather have John Fanta on our side anyway…

Not all heroes wear capes, some write for the Arizona Daily Sun and the Detroit News.

Fresh off the ranking Vegas has us as 1.5 point underdogs tomorrow!

Honestly? Good. Keep the chips on your shoulders, gentlemen.

Kent is solid. Gillespie is arguably the best post player in the MAC. Medley solid PG. Safford good for 15 and 5. They have a couple other very nice pieces too. So being 1.5 dogs on the road isn’t surprising.

Gillespie is pretty much a unicorn as far as what we’ve seen this year: an actual skilled and deadly big man. Those don’t usually exist in the MAC, its a guard’s league. Antwone is going be the decider tomorrow. If he can lock down Gillespie, or even just bother him, we win.

Apparently Dickie V does know we exist (or whoever runs his socials)

We better beat Kent, so we don’t have a one day ranking! Tall order. Let’s not play tight boys!

So, two Vitale stories:

First, one day when I was in grad school, I was in the student union when Vitale burst in sort of like the Kool-Aid man. What you hear on air is not an act. That is the man in the flesh – always turned up to eleven with more energy than a golden retriever puppy. “BACK AT DUKE! HOME OF THE CAMERON CRAZIES!” Then someone yells at him, “Dick, shut up! We’re trying to study for midterms!” And that just sets off another round: “ SIXTEEN HUNDRED SATS! LOVE IT BABY!”

Second, fast forward to last winter when he finally got to do a game at Cameron again. Below, I’ll leave you the link of him ringing the bell at mid-court to signify the end of his cancer treatment. At the end of that broadcast, he also noted that they basically had to carry him up to the crow’s nest where broadcasters are squeezed in for games.

He became a cartoon character over the years, but it’s hard to overstate how much he’s done to popularize college basketball. John Feinstein tells a story about a couple of younger coaches rolling their eyes a bit when Dicky V was making a grand hotel bar entrance at the Final Four only to be admonished by one of the older ones, “Every single one of us makes more money today because of THAT guy.”

The line has now moved to Miami being favored by 1.5

I still remember Nick Collison’s legendary 24/23 game against Texas in 2003, when Vitale couldn’t stop talking about Shane Battier instead of just admiring the amazing spectacle we’d all just seen.

I did like the game guy wearing a Sweet 16 shirt from 1999. I bought two of each back in March 1999. I didn’t know how long it’d be to get back again

And it’s his birthday today, per Miami’s social media.

#21 Georgia won at Mizzou and lost by 20 at Texas
#22 UNC won twice
#23 Louisville beat VaTech in their only game
#24 SLU won twice

#26 St John’s erases a 16 point deficit to win at Xavier after beating Seton Hall earlier in the week. They are 8-1 in the Big East.

#26 Wisconsin won big at Penn State on Thursday and hosts USC tomorrow.

Sounds like me might move up 1 spot if we’re lucky.

I’m guessing Miami moves up to Top 23 as #18 Bama loses to Tennessee and #21 UGA lost to Texas …
