Will be interesting to see if we continue to rise or if we get jumped by teams like Wisconsin or the Johnnies and just sit towards the bottom.
There’s quite a few pollsters who have us climbing (2 have us top 20 already), but I get the feeling a lot are just slotting us in at 24/25 and don’t really believe in us.
I can’t see us falling out of the poll as long as we have zero losses. Maybe if our only game this week was a close win against a bad team like NIU, but at this point there’s enough momentum and media attention that wins will keep us around. Doubt we move up much this week but at this point it’s a number to me, just win baby.
It would be the most “MAC-ish” thing ever to go on the road, beat a team with a winning record, maintain an undefeated record, and still get bumped out of the rankings.
I am going to go out on a limb and say this: even though some above fear we will be bumped out of the top 25, I don’t believe it will happen. Miami in some respects has become “America’s team” with all the positive publicity we have received. That alone will keep us from being bumped, along with an unblemished record, and a team deserving of a top 25 ranking. Can’t take credit for calling us “America’s team”. That came from someone else. But an accurate description so I borrowed it.
28 voters didn’t have us ranked at all last week. At 20-0, and ranked last week, I’d expect several of those to rank us this week. I don’t see us jumping up though, there was a decent gap between us and 24.
Just to clarify, I was wondering how much we can climb. I agree there is no way we drop out without a loss. Too much press and fanfare around the team. But can we climb to 20th? 15th? Will be interesting.
I do not want to leave it up to the committee to decide between 2 loss Miami and a 15 loss Indiana or Texas. I want to believe we would definitely go but who knows.
Also blowing out some of the lesser MAC teams will help out metrics should it be decided by the committee. More games like the CMU one would be appreciated
Not just for perception and potentially swaying views of selection committee members… but appreciated by fans just to make evenings and afternoons more relaxing. I’m too old for these last-second rallies and OT battles. And I’m not even that old.
CJ Moore from The Athletic does not have us in his top 25 again this week. In fact, he doesn’t even have us in the 5 additional teams he’s “keeping an eye on.”
