Miami notoriously struggles in non-conference play and in openers. The RedHawks haven’t won a non-pandemic opener since 2015, and they only have four non-conference regular season wins since 2012. But this was one of the rougher showings in recent memory. It’s Miami’s worst loss since 2019. The RedHawks usually hold their own defensively, only giving up a total of 30 points in their last two opener losses. Pitt basically had an open practice Saturday.

I believe they are embarrassed. I also believe Chuck is embarrassed because of the score, not necessarily the loss. The extremely large and season defining question is how will the team react. We know how coach will react because of the historical model, but these are a lot of new players.

Yup. Once the “Goals” are out the window, there’s no reason for a player to rally around, or even listen to, Chuck Martin.
I am as frustrated as anybody about the performance on Saturday and the way Chuck portrays us any time we play a P4 school.
The problem is there has always been a significant talent gap between us and the Power conferences. It did not prevent us from number of statement wins over the years.. it is time for Chuck to stop his OOC act as it is getting old
That being said, the one thing that has always been true about Chuck’s teams at Miami is they generally improve as the season unfolds.
Will we see it again this year?
I am counting on it.

Perhaps, but it still won’t excuse his deplorable attitude and behavior prior to this week’s game. His loser “act” is really wearing on me.

Can anyone name one non MAC team Chuck has beaten who had more talent on paper than us? Where we were the lesser talented team and Chuck schemed us to a victory?

CM set the tone for the game ( and hopefully not the season ) on our first possession . Smith does a great job on a 65 yard kick return.We have the ball on the Pitt 43. The team was pumped up - our bench was excited. - BUT Our QB has never played a college game - last time he played was in high school. Typical CM we attempt two unsuccessful low percentage pass plays in part due to pessure from PItt - DL- QB hurries. We complete a short pass ( why we did not do this on first or second down ? ). It is fourth and four on the Pitt 37/38 yard line and we punt the ball into he Pitt end zone for a touch back. Why not go for it on fourth down or We have a place kicker who according to CM who can hit a FG from 50 yards plus. Why not try a FG? Pitt takes over at their 20 ( a 18 yard difference from where we had the ball )and easily scores a TD on their first drive. The Miami bench you can tell is down ( I was sitting right behind the bench ). The rest of the game is bad history. This is typical of the poor game time coaching by CM during his entire tenure at Miami. He has no common sense re game time situations. Further we were not ready to play on Saturday- we made no adjustments - especially on D- do we have DB’s who can play man coverage? Probably yes but that is not the way they are coached and/ or instructed to play on Saturdays. Our DB’s played 8/12 yards off the Pitt wide outs ( like we have played season after season - go back and look at the Rutgers game last for example ) and Pitt makes easy completion after completion. Our LB’s were retreating all most every play and the short middle pass was open all day - we make no adjustments and give up 7 pass play TD passes. Did we ever blitz or stunt our DL’s ? Further our O line could not do anything and we had trouble protecting our QB even when Pitt was only rushing four. We threw one pass to our TE until the end of the game. We had players cramping up due to the heat - Pitt
had no condiitioning ssues. We were terrible in front 40.000 plus in he stands and a national TV audience. BTW Please no more ACC speculation on this site esp after the Pitt game. CM , Patton , our DC and others on this staff need to get their act together - we were not ready to play last Saturday- IF CM and his staff had performed the way they did on last Saturday in the private sector " real world" they would either be fired or put on final warning ! Miami deservers much better.

They are called upsets for a reason. Do you think there are a slew of coaches who regularly win when they have worse players than the other team?
Why keep beating your heads against the wall thinking Chuck is going to “get it together”? He’s not going to. Ever.
