A Perfect Summation of Saturday

Everyone in our suite was bitching about that call on 4th down on the Pitt 38 and not going for it. That absolutely sent a message to the team.

Isn’t a coach supposed to elevate his team by schemes and coaching, even when at a talent disadvantage? Maybe an imperfect example at this point in the season, but do you think UMASS has more talent than Rutgers?

There’s an old saying: a good coach can take his players and beat your players, or he can take your players and beat his players.

From what I’ve seen of that game (about half), UMass didn’t win just due to scheme. They were the better team. It was an upset on reputation, conference, and the sports books, I suppose. It didn’t seem that way on the field.

..and the UMASS HC told his players during the 1st quarter they were the better team!

They need some Lance Guidry style pregame peptalks.

Every other coach in America uses analytics to aid in that decision. I’m guessing Chuck is too old fashioned to do so. Or, we suck so bad, that the math indicated we wouldn’t gain the first (which is hard to believe given our avg yards per play over the past 100 years).

I have to pull that up once or twice a football season to get excited for a Miami game
