I have been critical of #5’s play this year. I think in a couple games he could have been justifiably benched. But through yesterday, he has been very good in MAC play. These are his MAC game stats, keep it up Brett!
Conf Comp 47 Attempts 80 Completion % 58.8 Yards 696 YPC 8.7 TD 9 INT 1 Long 75 RTG 166.5
Brett is back to being Brett. He was excellent yesterday, with a little help from his friends–the WR! Solid day passing and catching the ball. New guys step up and make plays.
We’re in a good place right now. Run the table, including MACC and our bowl game. Hope we get a decent bowl to showcase the guys who will be playing their last game in Red and White.
You can tell he’s been far more comfortable the last two weeks than the first five. Part of that has been a much stronger running game, but physically he’s just been sharper in passing with a bit of mobility back. With our upcoming schedule lightening up I’m feeling optimistic.
Agree -he has come back strong but he also has better O line play and an improved running game. His forced picks were not good decisions but remember we were playing from behind in those games and plying against better teams.
To be fair, if giving credit to a QB for last years championship, Aveon Smith went 5-0, all against MAC teams, including a win at 10 win Ohio which got us in the MACC and the championship win over 11 win Toledo.
Brett has been absolutely money the last 3 weeks and has seemed to put all fears or safety issues behind him and is giving everything he can to get another championship, pain or injury be damned.
Rough 2nd half for Brett against Ball State but again, no turnovers and 3 TD passes in pretty bad weather conditions. Continues to be very solid in conference play. Stats in conference play through last night:
Completions 73 Attempts 124 Comp % 58.9 Yards 1,080 YPC 8.7 TD 13 INT 1 Long 75 RTG 165.0
I think it was early in the 3rd quarter that Ball State caught Brett with a blitz and he got hammered by a couple of guys. He was moving very slowly after that play and looked to be in pain. He was not the same after that, overthrowing our receivers time and again. He had 3 TD passes before that play, struggled after that.
Given that Kent may be the worst team in FBS, I hope we get this early lead and can sub in many of of our bench players and backups. I will be very disappointed if we don’t.
Both of our QB’s are good so whoever is in will light it up. Maybe we finally pull the elusive quad of two WR’s getting 100 yards each and two RB’s going for 100 each.
Early weather forecast for Wednesday is a high of 67 but 50% chance of rain. It’s sandwiched between two clear days so hoping for that to reduce risk of sloppy play, injuries, and give Henry some ideal conditions to get experience during likely garbage time.
The only way this gets to the point of blowout win is if we can run the ball efficiently. I believe we will win by a couple of touchdowns, but a blow out, I doubt it. Maybe a last few meaningless minutes of playing time for subs.
I expect a blowout that may be mitigated by our playing backups early and often once we control the scoreboard. They are very weak and we are playing well. And we need this game. They are playing out the string with no motivation, or ability, to compete with us.
I will be there so hope to see the young guys get some meaningful minutes.
