Which is why we must use NPI! No stats just wins and losses!

I think the biggest proof of KenPom’s bias:

TEN loss Washington is FOURTY-FOUR spots ahead of us

When you google Ken Pomeroy, a lady country singer is what comes up. How unfortunate for our favorite statistician.

I wouldn’t call KP bias. Its like calling WAR or BABIP in baseball bias. Its a statistical tool and one that historically has been very good (some year’s the best) at doing what it does. The problem is from people who hear about analytics and don’t understand the purpose of the stat. KenPom is very good at predicting the relative strength of teams when they meet on the court. It was definitely the pioneer on that front. That’s what the tool was designed to be. Torvik and Miya may dispute whether its still the best at what it does, but it indisputably does it well.

KenPom was not designed to be a tournament selector or ordered rank of team’s resume. Unfortunately, many just know its a “smart basketball fan” analytic (although in 2026 its totally mainstream) and think it should be used for all purposes for ranking teams.

The NET on the other hand IS a ranking explicitly designed as a tournament selector. Its also super exploitable and despite being the committee’s officially designated selector, they are free to ignore it when it benefits them and also use it as a cudgel when it suits them. The NET is the devil’s tool, not KP.

Just like RPI was used to deny the MAC a second berth back in the 80’s and 90’s when we had some very good teams in the conference. That is, they used it to keep us out until MAC schools had a good RPI, at which point they promptly ignored it.

Kent beat Toledo on the road. Solid chance that’s a q2 win for us now. They were 140 before the game

17 point comeback

Couple close MAC games by top teams: Akron only wins by 2 and Kent only wins by 3.

Dayton game was a mirror finish of ours.UD went up for two and St Bomny missed a three at the buzzer..

St Louis in TV at Davidson rn on CBSSN.

No such things as an easy road game in the MAC. That said, in think EMU is dangerous.

Of course they are. They beat UC. But, we’re dangerous as well. More dangerous. That’s the rub.

Arizona has eight games left. Six are against ranked teams.

I was on board with him until he started bashing the MAC (and Miami specifically)

Ironic that he’s complaining about a lack of context and then acts like Miami wanted to schedule 3 non-D1s this year. Dougie remains a clown.

We currently have two Q2 wins, but Kent and BG should both be in the top 135 of NET tomorrow. If that happens, we have a chance to pick up our fifth Q2 win on Saturday at Marshall.

Also, Marshall is the highest ranked Sun Belt team in the NET at the moment.

Davidson up by 5 over SLU at the half. It’s the closest it’s been since about the 15 minute mark, as the Wildcats have led by as much as 18. Billikens closed the half on a 7-0 run.

Chris Beard went ape$hit and got ejected from the game at Tennessee. Not a good look for Beard after all that went down at UT-Austin.

A partner at my kid’s new firm took him to the Duke-BC game tonight.

SLU has a better second half - Billikens win by 9.

Couldn’t remember why I knew the name Doug Gottlieb and his coaching stint at UWGB, but eventually recalled him trashing Michigan Tech as “Nobody U” before UWGB played them in Green Bay … and guess what happened? Get bent, Dougie.
