2026 Transfer Portal (MIAMI NEWS ONLY)

Skaljac or did I miss something

I don’t know but this is pretty telling that Luke is coming back.

I would guess opening day lineup as we sit now would be Skaljac, Kirby, Elmer, ?, Portal Big. Ipsaro will likely be playing limited minutes, if any at all, in November.

? could be Almer. Could be another portal guy. I think matchup dependent, again highly dependent on our portal class, we may play Ipsaro, Skal, and Kirby together in a 3 guard look. Kirby has just enough size and definitely has the athleticism where we can get away with that against many MAC teams.

Portal exits and enrollees obviously make this impossible to predict at this moment.

I didn’t know if they would start both ipsaro and skaljac

I’m an optimist so I always look at these things like are gonna trade up anywhere we can to get better every year. Even if you loved the guys Steele inherited, they wouldn’t have won 31 games or beat SMU. I’m not certain they could have beaten EMU. I think we can get a lot better talent now.

I’d be totally comfortable starting Ipsaro and Skally (if we have them), but as many have pointed out, it’s hard to know what Ipsaro’s availability will be early on.

On Perry, it sucks. I think he was poised to make a jump. Finished the season really well. That being said, if we keep Skaljac and Ipsaro, his minutes would have been limited.

I’ve seen a couple people say we need to add multiple impact bigs. I think adding one impact big would be a triumph of miraculous magnitude. My hope is a suitable replacement for Woolfolk and hope that Tyler Robbins is ready to play real minutes.

If we really have the increased resources and drive to be a top mid-major program, my expectations for portal bigs have a baseline of Bettiol from UMass last year, not Woolfolk (and Antwone really grew, I don’t want to slight him). But expectations are up from 2 years ago when he signed.

There is no reason we can’t get an all-MAC level big man in the portal if we are spending the type of money reported on football roster and building a $200m+ arena. I want a guy like Gillespie at Kent or Lyles at Akron. Not a role player, but a real threat that opens the perimeter for our shooters and can be a guy on defense.

There was a logjam at PG, someone was unfortunately going to bounce. Perry has one of the best ā€œhe found the light switch and turned it onā€ mid-season improvements I’ve seen from anyone at any level. And his game-winner vs. WMU was a heck of a ā€œsurvive and advanceā€ moment. Best of luck to Trey.

Evan be at start of season?

READT?

Can’t imagine him being 100%…ready or not.

=>Try again.

It’s not at all unreasonable to think Evan is ready to roll when games start. 8-9 months is certainly possible. Could be a little longer. Could be a little shorter.

I can’t fathom he’s not being a beast about his recovery.

What is almost certain at this point with Kirby, Perry, and Brant making their intentions known: the offers have been extended. Steele famously said last year he’s not one to get in a bidding war. His strategy was to tell a guy what Miami could do and if that wasn’t good enough, then wish them luck.

Elmer is obviously the big shoe to drop. Have to expect to hear something soon with portal opening in a few days. Not sure if days going by is a good sign or he’s looking to just enter the portal on the 7th without making a big thing of it on socials.

=>And Robbins.

What did Robbins say?

Oh yeah, I think I did see that.

The writing was on the wall with Perry the moment he announced his affiliation with some 2-bit agent who claimed to have NBA clients but obviously… doesn’t.

This is why I’ve relinquished my 40 years of buying season tickets for football and buying tickets for several basketball games every year. The ncaa has ruined everything.
