2026 Transfer Portal (MIAMI NEWS ONLY)

I’m disappointed that Byers is leaving, but that’s his decision to make, not mine. I hope everything turns out well for him on the court and in the classroom.

100%!! I wish him nothing but the best, unless he faces Miami before he graduates. Then I hope he doesn’t play well enough to beat us.

People are acting like a degree from Miami is akin to a degree from Harvard. Yes, a Miami degree is quite valuable. Hell, I’ve got two. But it’s not like a degree from whatever school he ends up at is essentially toilet paper.

Evan and Luke are now essential.

Past time for Steele to decide

Decide what? He’s under contract for 6 more years. He hasn’t been a candidate in a single job opening. Decide if he is retiring from coaching basketball and going to work in insurance?

This isn’t like Schertz or Groce where they were interviewing with multiple schools. They may be working out extension details but Steele is Miamis coach.

The lack of extension isn’t going to impact portal entrants and who we land. Only thing the extension changes is Steele and his assistants’ bank accounts.

It sucks to lose Perry as he went from pretty bad to a very high level freshman guard over the season, but the positional log jam probably made keeping him impossible.

Who knows when Ip will be fully back, but between Luke and Ip at PG, there probably weren’t the type of minutes Perry wanted or honestly earned, available. Will be interesting to see what level he lands at. I’d hate to see him in the MAC ala Safford.

40% of our rotation pieces this year now either graduating or in the portal. (Woolfolk, Suder, Byers, Perry).

Saw an announcement a few days ago that Perry signed with a new agency. Kind of figured the writing was on the wall there unfortunately

Post season I thought if we keep one of Elmer/Byers (and I felt Byers was definitely leaving), Ipsaro and Luke, one of Kirby/Perry, and brought in a top MAC quality transfer big, we can still be the preseason favorite of the MAC.

Hopefully that path is still in play.

I dont know why I get surprised but this really surprises me. I wasnt thinking he was a 4 year guy but jeez I thought be back this year

This is just so frustrating to me as a fan. Whether it is right or wrong for the player.

I disagree on the earlier comment on Steele. I think we should have gotten an announcement by now on his extension that everyone was talking about in February and March and he openly discussed and said let me get through the season and then I will review it

He is close with Coach Richburg.

Apparently not close enough.

With Byers and Perry gone, frees up money for a decent Big Man in the front court!

Exactly. Steele could ride this out another year and leave that extension hanging….

I guess the counter to that is, if you’re Travis Steele, why not make more money this year? Whatever the buyout is, it’s not going to scare off a high major.

Sayler publicized the contract extension offer mid-season (and Steele publicly acknowledged it), what’s the upside of staying silent? Agree it’s a different situation from other coaches but the lack of confirmation is odd for 2026, when even the smallest of retention news is still reported.

Disappointed but not surprised about Perry, with Kirby returning the writing was on the wall imo. Best wishes since that WMU game winner will live on forever, hope he goes outside the MAC.

I don’t think we will ever have a hard time finding competent guards who can play spot minutes. Perry leaving doesn’t concern me. We need impact bigs. Find two more Woolforks and you have a very different team.

So hopefully the starting lineup next year is Ipsaro, Kirby, Elmer, ?, ?.
