2026 Transfer Portal (MIAMI NEWS ONLY)

We Have Our First Three!

Completely agree, DG. Can’t fault these young adults for doing what’s best in their opinions.

They are. As indicated, I think everyone else remains, but NIL money must be invested. A Miami degree is amazing, but close to $1M is pretty damn special as well.

I actually have a Miami friend who has played in bands all his life on the side for fun. In one of his bands he met a guy that graduated from Berklee which is a famous musician school in Boston (i know because the Cars keyboardist and guitarist both went there for two years). Anyway my friend said you must be really good to have graduated from Berklee and this guy said “if i was any good I would been invited to join a great band long before I graduated”

Realistically we have very little chance of keeping early round picks in the NBA or NFL. We offered Trick $1M and he still wanted the P4 experience.

I think what was unique about this years Miami basketball team was how balanced it was and maybe some guys were really good for us but dont project as a P4 player- but if we ever end up with a team of Wally S and Damon F scoring 80% of our points then the following year we are probably screwed

While I’m an N of 1, there isn’t a day in my home office that I don’t look at my diploma and feel lucky and the value it has brought me.

Pride swells, sometimes with teary eyes, when my former team takes the field. I give my daughters a proof silver dollar every Xmas to honor the speech that Dr Shriver gave at my recruiting dinner.

Had I been fortunate enough to make money while playing, my 20 year old developing brain probably would’ve taken it.

However, that wasn’t the case and I don’t have a single fucking regret….or forget the value my Miami experience (and degree) continues to deliver to this very day.

The truth is our speculating on who will stay and who will go, while nice to pass the time, is a futile exercise. We don’t know. There is one person on MHT who likely does know, but I wouldn’t consider asking this person. So we all can just sit back and wait.

Why is this season different from all other seasons?

SDS = Same Day Service

Devil Grad- you missed my point-my post was not just a pissed off alum doing a hit on Byers. Yes the landscape of college athletics has changed - we all get that. My point was this new landscape can and should be carefully navigated. If Miami’s offer to Byers was competitive both short range and long range he would be better off to stay at Miami. This is especially true in his case as Steele and his staff have helped Byers to greatly improve his game since his was an early enrollee 2 plus years ago.If Byers gets a great deal more money to go elsewhere so be it. If this happens certainly I and others will be disappointed but we understand the “ new landscape “.

One thing that I wonder about with a guy like Byers is his payout at new school vs. payout from Miami/progress to a degree. Since Byers was a redshirt, I assume he could stay at Miami another year, graduate, AND enter the portal and secure a big payment. If he completes three years at Miami, can he transfer credits at his new school to Miami? Not sure how that works.

I don’t blame Byers at all. This is the system that has been created. It is hard to tell a kid he can’t go out and make money. I get it. Most of us on this site went to Miami, have great memories of Miami and perhaps utilized our Miami degree to achieve great things in life. Many might not understand why someone wouldn’t want that same experience. Brant gets to make his own decisions that he thinks will benefit him and his long term plans. All the best to him and to all those that venture out into the portal. Some (perhaps many) will make poor choices but others will make decisions that will benefit them in the future. I hope Brant enjoyed his time at Miami and the relationships that he made.

I blame Byers and his family if they are making a bad decision and rejecting a competitive Miami offer - see my previous post. As also noted by some on this site the value of a Miami education has to have some value along with excellent coaching and playing for a strong program ( 31-0 also has to mean something ). Again we all get the “ new landscape “ BUT players and families should navigate it carefully.

I think this is being a bit harsh. Brant (and most athletes at Miami) are only at Miami because they couldn’t get an offer to a bigger school. That’s the reality. For most normal alumni, like most of us, Miami was probably one of our top choices, maybe even our first choice.

For most Miami athletes, Miami is somewhere between school 50 and 100. They’d all (or close to all) would much rather be playing in the Big Ten or ACC or SEC if given the chance to play.

One Miami basketball player when asked about how campus was reacting to the team’s undefeated season on one of the Zoom calls said he hadn’t been on campus this year as he’s taking all online classes, so he didn’t know. Its just a very different relationship to what many of us have with the school where many of those athletes would be sitting next to us in Miami plan classes or such.

I hope Byers goes to a place where he can continue to develop as a player and not just fill a role. He made a big jump with his ability to take the ball to the basket to complement his shooting. I hope he gets to add a mid-range element to his game, whether it’s the turn around jumper he made a few times or even an 8-10 foot floater he could put up before he takes contact at the rim. If he can add that element to his game, he’ll be hard to stop.
