CMU making things look interesting
CMU wins. BG wins.
CMU and UB now both 6-10 (2 games left each). UMass 6-11 (only OU left). Only 2 spots for those 3 teams.
What are the MAC tie breakers? H2H?
UB: vs. EMU, @ Toledo
CMU: vs. Akron, @ BSU
UMass: vs. OU
Of course, the only schedule that matters…
Miam: vs. Toledo, @ OU
Looking at schedules, a 3 way tie at 7-11 between CMU, Buffalo, and UMass for seeds 7, 8, and 9 (out) is very possible. If this happens, is this how the tiebreaker works?
-
Umass is 2-1 against cmu / buffalo combined
-
Cmu is 1-1 against buffalo and Umass combined
-
Buffalo is 1-2 against Umass / cmu combined
So Umass is 7, Cmu is 8, Buffalo is out
If I got this right, I think we should root for this scenario. Miami beat CMU by 39 and UMass would not be a fun first game for Akron.
It could happen like this:
-
UMass beats ou
-
cmu loses to Akron and beats ball state
-
Buffalo beats EMU and loses at Toledo
Very realistic
Frietang did not play again against CMU and I’m wondering if he’s just gonna pack it in for the season. Sabol and Brizzi each played 40 minutes, the 50 year old and another starter played 35+. I’m not sure Buff has another win in them.
True, though if Buffalo loses out and the other results above happen the seeds would work out the same (since UMass beat CMU in their only meeting)
2 game windows left. The top 5 are the top 5 with very little movement possible in those spots. After that, it’s a mess.
- Miami 16-0
- Akron 15-1
- Kent 12-4
- Toledo 10-6
- OU 9-7
- BGSU 8-9
- Central 6-10
- Buffalo 6-10
- UMass 6-11
- Ball St. 5-11
- Western 4-12
- NIU 4-12
- Eastern 4-12
We’re one win away or one Akron loss from the #1 seed. Kent is locked in at #3. Toledo is in the 4/5 game. OU needs one win or one BG loss to be in the 4/5 game.
BG is going to Cleveland. They could finish as high as 5 or as low as 8. They lost to both Buffalo and Central.
Buffalo doesn’t have tiebreakers on Central or UMass. Buffalo and UMass split, but UMass gets the edge with their win over Toledo, the higher placed team.
As scohawk pointed out, a UMass win puts them in good position to make it since they have head-to-head on Central and Buffalo is reeling. A loss doesn’t put them out but they would need some help.
For Central, they can afford a loss to Akron as long as they beat Ball St. and Buffalo loses one. If somehow Central beat Akron and lost to Ball St., they’d be in a tough spot.
root for this for sure! CMU in quarterfinal a lot better than Mass or Buffalo (assuming Freitag playing).
UB fans have suspected for a while that Freitag won’t be returning this season (or to UB, in general).
I fear no one.
Don’t count out Ball State for a spot. They play at Western and finish at home against Central. They could finish 7-11.
Good point re: Ball State- problem is they are 0-4 vs UMass and Buffalo (would be 2-0 vs Central). I haven’t looked at all of the scenarios, but I don’t think them in the tiebreaker helps with pushing UMass or Buffalo out of the bracket and/or out of the 8 seed. CMU is better to have in there.
If Frietang doesn’t play, Buff is not beating that Toledo team.
idk what the scenarios are but it’s likely that UB, UMASS, and either CMU or Ball St are all 7-11 fighting for 7 and 8th seed
bugs with a good shot at moving into the 5th seed
Figured it out I think
-
For what it’s worth, I think if Buffalo beats Toledo we get UMass no matter what happens in other games - Buffalo would be the 7 (or 6 if BG loses which is unlikely) and UMass would be the 8 (UMass wins 2 team tiebreaker with CMU via head to head and they also would win 2 team tiebreaker with Ball State due to their win over Toledo)
-
If Buffalo loses to Toledo and CMU beats Ball State seeds are UMass 7, CMU 8, Buffalo out
-
If Buffalo loses to Toledo and Ball State beats CMU, then seeds are Buffalo 7, UMass 8, Ball St out
Ball St has nothing to play for I guess. Rooting for Scenario 2.
As a side note we can potentially knock OU down to the 6 seed with a win and if BG beats EMU
Having to beat umass then toledo then akron. That draw sucks
MAC is deeper than Big East. UB>Depaul.
MAC is tough.
Yep, go Toledo and CMU on Friday
