I don’t know what kind of money Miami has for a roster, but Pete Nakos has estimated Butler’s roster budget will be similar to Xavier in the 4-5 million range, which is lower half of Big East. Top teams around 8 million or more.
1980’s me is having a hard time believing that would ever happen, but it’s obviously true.

Holtman left Butler to coach at Ohio State.
LaVall Jordan got fired at Butler to bring back Matta who got fired at Ohio State.
Holtmann and Jordan are both coaching at DePaul.
Travis has obviously had great success here compared to Cooper and Owens, and I think he’s a great coach, but I think many here are high on our own supply a bit.
He got fired from X after missing the tourney 4 years in a row. He’s had two winning seasons here, but has not won a Q1 game or beat a top 50 team. P4 + BE schools aren’t going to be that interested in Steele yet. He still needs to prove himself after washing out 4 years ago.
Just look at his brother. Guy washed out of Illinois, has indisputably been the best coach in the MAC for almost a decade, and still there. Six 20 win seasons in 7 years. Four conference tournament titles in 5 years.
There’s honestly probably 10 mid-major coaches with a stronger case for a power job.

No Dambrot, No Dru Joyce, No LeBron. They have a Nike contract and likely some access to LeBron specific team gear, and that’s likely all they are getting

For 4 years, Thad got $10.4M for 63 wins, or $165K per win.
It’s hard not to laugh at Butler for that.
Coaching carousel aside, a Western fan on the MAC board had a good point about our mindset. For over a month our spotlight grew and we were “expected” to win over MAC teams that weren’t pushovers. We took everyone’s best shot, that pressure caught up with us even before Cleveland.
Now it’s “Miami vs. Everyone.” We have a chance to be the disrespected underdogs with a chip on our shoulder, Steele wants to keep the noise out but it’s still a shift that may help. A lot of idiots out there thinking that SMU is going to run us out of the building when I don’t think that’s gonna happen.
