Again, would you rather live in Akron or Charleston?
This is the only relevant question needed for this conversation
=>Too hot in Charleston. Too many hurricanes. Too many mosquitos. Too many aligators.
Also, I am told the entire low country will be under 10 feet of water in 12 years.
I would rather live in Akron. Would you rather live in Atlanta or Oxford? Georgia State job is open are we cool if Steele takes that one? Lateral conference move.
There was a good piece in the Akron Beacon Journal about why he left. There are heavy budget concerns at Akron
I would have made the same choice. Wouldnāt hesitate. Location, fiscally solid university, Akron with significant money issues as an institution. I could go on.
Charleston is not Atlanta. Not by a long shot. Of course I am biased as I will be retiring to the Low Country of South Carolina.
Why are you not retiring in Akron?
So, youāve never been to Atlanta or Charleston?
Seems like a no brainer. SC > Ohio
Yes I have been to both. More Atlanta. I would rather live in Charleston than Atlanta
SC is a nice place to visit but I would not want to live there.
Atlanta is a place and I would not want to live there.
Well, that is a choice.
Give me Ohio over SC any day, no offense to those who prefer the south. Different strokes for different folks!
Gentlemen, please. They both suck.
What I really want to know is if we think Dustin Ford can maintain Akronās level. Groce did a hell of a job there, and the Zips seem like the prime obstacle to Miamiās success becoming repeatable and routine.
Atlanta is LA east without the ocean.
Give me Ohio over South Carolina every day, all offense to those who prefer the south.
I actually once turned down a job offer because they wanted to make me relocate to South Carolina. Then they came back a couple months later and said that relocating to Ohio was also an option and I took it.
I have a brother who lives in Charleston (Daniel Island). I have a daughter and sister who live in Atlanta (Marietta). I have spent significant time in both cities.
Charleston, all day and every day. Not even close.
(Sorry, kid and sis.)
All the talk of Vivek Ramaswamy closing Kent State and Akron has to be considered. Iām not trying to make this a political post, so I wonāt opine on my thoughts on that, but the fact that it is being discussed would give anyone involved with either of those universities reason for reflection. It certainly could have been a factor in Groceās decision.
I agree. Plus Akrons sports budget has gone from $38m to $30m because of their enrollment drop and the AD couldnāt give assurances it wouldnt go down even more. I just dont think it had to do with weather or how nice South Carolina is. These coaches work all the time in basketball season and weather is probably better in NE Ohio in their downtime
Can the state ācloseā a school?
