About 20 years ago the American Entreprise Institute Produced a study called “Diplomas and Dropouts” It was a grad rate study with Akron having a 36% grad rate over 6 years. Think about that. I wrote several letters to the ABJ about the absolute ridiculous sham of money pass through that UofA was. It is what you think it is. UA employees essentially being paid by state tax subsidies, loan money, Federal Pell money and then whatever actually earned money of students, as tuition - basically for 36% outcome. And if the average is 36% and you have Polymer Science (Akron’s specialty) at maybe 80% the what majors are wallowing about 15%. So while Vivek sounds a little nutty on the surface to some, understand that state supported institutions need to be accountable to the taxpayer the way K12 always has their feet the fire with test scores and ratings.

Coach Holmes played at UNC, coached at Elon and William and Mary before Miami. Perhaps he wanted to return home. He may also see this as a better path to a HC job since Travis is staying at Miami. He was a great coach at Miami.

It will be interesting to see what coaching addition Travis makes. Personally, I would like to see Khristian Smith elevated to Assistant Head Coach.

He is going to work for Steele’s brother so I assume all is friendly but I just dont get it. I am pretty sure Groce salary was the same at Charleston and Akron - so wouldnt lead assistants be the same.
I really thought he’d be our next head coach - and perhaps he will be some day. Sad to see him go.
The sign of a better program is having assistant coaches you can remember. I mean no disrespect to the other regimes between Coles and now but I can only recall one of the assistants Damon because he played here. The rest are a total blur.
That’s why you follow them on social media and never unfollow and then wonder why you are following the head coach of Battle Ground Academy in Tennessee many years later.

I’d wager a fair amount that this is the hold up for Travis signing the extension. Not that he’s going to leave, but he was trying to get more assistant coach money to keep Holmes.
