This was my initial statement. No more, no less. I gave an opinion on who I would make HC if I were Akron. If Dustin Ford isn’t offered, he isn’t offered. If he chooses to continue to be the right hand man and not the captain, so be it.

I’m glad we can put this to rest quickly and go back to wondering what county judge we have to grease to get Peter Suder an extra year of eligibility.
Fun fact. Dustin Ford flipped me and my friends off when the Bobcats came to Oxford his junior year. In his defense, we did arrive 25 minutes early and yelled “Geno!” every time he shot the ball in pregame. And I think we did some “let’s go Geno” chants in pregame to get under his skin. He played terribly that game. It was great.
The CAA is an outstanding mid-major conference.with solid hoops and baseball and a FCS football side. Hoops leaders usually include UNCW, CoC, Towson and William & Mary. Academics are solid, too - with the aforementioned schools, Hofstra, Northeastern, and Elon - along with elite HBCU Hampton.
I just looked at the conference site…a large conference w pretty weird geography schools in places. (i.e. Monmouth??) Also. some very good academic schools as Nescadad mentioned.
How did the CAA compare to the MAC in the Net?
Basically the same. Miami/Akron obviously a tier above any CAA team. CoC was 162, behind BGSU.
UNCW won the regular season championship but lost in the first round of the tournament by a lot. They didn’t get an invite to the dance. The Seahawks lost a close game on the road at Kent in November.
Delaware was a member until they went FBS this season and joined CUSA.
Losers. Morgan Safford probably didn’t even crap all over his shorts in that game.
It’s my understanding that Ford has HC in waiting in his contract.
You mean averaging 3 wins a year isn’t enough to keep your job?
Don’t forget the investigation into point shaving in 2025
I haven’t checked the accuracy of any of this. Just posting the tweet.
Groce is 10 years older (54) than Travis. As I mentioned in an earlier thread, he had his 5 years of power conference experience at Illinois, and maybe he is now looking at other factors in this decision such as location and lifestyle. The money is good at C of C, and the location is pretty darned good, too!
Maybe he saw that Vivek wants to shut Akron down…
Maybe he feared he couldn’t compete with what his brother is creating… or maybe he got tired of his teams getting their brains beat in during the NCAA Tournament. But I agree it’s about quality of life at this point.
