2026 Coaching Carousel

Big loss for the MAC.

Home and home with Charleston, let’s get it done.

do it for momma Steele

I just returned from Sea Pines. About my 10th trip there. Also, as always visited Bluffton, Port Royal, Beaufort, Savannah. I will be retiring to the Low Country of SC.

The Bonnies’ new coach will make half of Schmidt’s salary, with the difference going to the roster. I expect we’ll start seeing more of this.

There were 47 coaching vacancies. 10 still open. Here is a chart:

If I am Akron, I am elevating Dustin Ford to HC as soon as Groce is gone. To me, this is a no brainer move.

Heard he’s going to be taking it to the street.

He’s already been telling recruits ā€œYammo be thereā€ and they are confused…

I wonder if Dru Joyce III is a candidate at Akron. Assuming he’s still close with Lebron, that could bring in some big program support. Easy way to probably secure media attention and a big NIL bag assuming Lebron would kick some money their way to support his hometown and friend.

Maybe even do something like a couple other NBA guys have done where Lebron is named the GM of Akron basketball.

The LeBron support was supposed to happen at Duquesne, when rumors were rampant that Bronny was going to transfer there after the year at USC. That didn’t happen obviously, and I’m not sure the big time NIL support ever came either (at least to a level that would put them in a good spot in the A-10). Maybe it’s different if Dru goes home, but I’m not sure it’s a given.

i would venture to guess Ford is going with Groce–he is his longtime right hand man.

That may happen. I have no idea. But if you were Dustin Ford and were given the opportunity to be the HC at Akron, or the right hand man at Charleston, what would you do? How would you advise your sons if they had that decision to make?

If Akron wants Ford as its HC, he will be. Whether or not Akron wants him is the real question (to which none of us have an answer). And to @Hoophawk30’s point, he’s definitely got a job in Charleston if he wants it.

if he has desire to be a HC and that was offered, i would think he would take Akron. Hes a life long ohio guy so his recruiting base is here. but some guys just want to be assistants. hes 47 so its getting to be now or never for him as a HC.

I mean, I certainly care who Akron’s next head coach is.
