I got my 2025 edition of Phil Steele’s mag yesterday. He’s got Toledo ranked at #25 in his national rankings. Although Miami is almost a complete rebuild offensively (11 starters gone), he is optimistic that we will be contenders and will make another bowl. He has a lot of faith in CM to keep Miami competitive. Our projected offensive point production is just 24 points per game. Steele says our D should be solid. (It will need to be.)
Toledo, Ohio, Buffalo, Miami, and BG are predicted to be the top teams in the MAC. Kent is a complete train wreck, ranked last.
He has Wisconsin listed as being a major rebuild, too, and ranked at #12 in the B1G. Rutgers is #13.
Penn State is Steele’s national #1.
IMHO, this would have been the perfect year to open with our FCS game. Not to be!
Future Schedules shows a TBD Bowl for MAC and CUSA but no Bahamas Bowl. I’d check the MAC website but it probably still has 2023 info. Not including the TBD bowl, FutureSchedules shows 4 primary MAC bowls and 6 secondary.
I know we’ve lost a lot on offense, but I think the offense is going to good. Finn, IMO, is the best QB we’ve had under Martin. I’m excited to see him, and the O, play this year.
I’m think our offense might be better than the defense. While we did lose more on offense we still lost a lot on defense (salopek, Ugwu, strader) and the transfers we got on offense are really good while we didn’t bring in as much on defense.
A couple transfers he doesn’t mention who I think could have an impact are Koy Beasley and Cordale Russell. I’m surprised because he doesn’t usually miss that sort of thing.
Overall it will come down to our o-line. If they overperform the offense will be solid. If not, could be a long season. I’ve reached the point with Chuck where I don’t really worry about the defense. He always seems to find a way and I like the talent we have back on that side of the ball.
I know Puerto Rico isn’t the same as the Bahamas, but I feel like that’d be a logical replacement with much fewer logistical issues from being within US borders.
