2025-26 Miami hockey thread

Agreed. Although I extended my inability to cheer for other teams to include OSU, MSU, and ND. Basically just cheered for the mid-major/smaller schools in the CCHA.

Sydney Wolf (whom I’d never heard of prior to this past season) is reporting that seven potential coaches were interviewed by SUCS. One of them was allegedly Eric Rud.

Nick Oliver seems to be the frontrunner, he coached with Anthony Noreen for the USA u19s in the WJAC a few years back.

What Hope Steele will do

I assume that’s who you’re rooting for.

I am rooting for anyone NOT on our coaching staff :joy:

I’ll go along with that.

Tough loss.

At least the team that took Miami out was the one that won it all

I always enjoy watching the Big Ten lose in hockey.

Now, can we please get back to having Miami in the tournament?

Are we happy that we play in a conference that has won 8 out of the last 10 National titles? Or are we resigned to the fact that our conference affiliation likely means we will likely never be good enough to truly compete?

I don’t think there’s any reason to think we can’t compete in the NCHC. We clearly haven’t been competitive recently, but I don’t view that as being a result of us being somehow uniquely disadvantaged versus other programs in the long term. So I’d reject the second part of your statement.

I think it’s very good being in the NCHC. It’s a benefit to be able to tell recruits that they’ll be playing against the best of the best. And having such a strong conference prepares the NCHC teams well for tournament games. So I don’t root for NCHC in the blind SEC football way, but I do think the success of NCHC programs is beneficial to us. And the option of being in the CCHA is still comically worse unless your goal is to be able to win 20+ games and still have to win the conference tournament to make it to the NCAA tournament.

Just like basketball.

We were 3 conference wins different from Western who finished 4th and made the tourney so not far off from being competitive. Went from 3 wins to 17 in a season

Never say Never.

In this era, we’re lucky to be the Vandy or Northwestern of the nchc than being the top dog in the mac-level ccha. And besides, we’re finally climbing out of the basement, the future looks bright.
