Our coach had the most win improvement over the year before. To me that’s proof he’s coach of the year.
Coach of the Year voting is often tricky. Do you give it to the coach of the champion or recognize someone who exceeded expectations by a mile? We were vastly improved, but still finished 7th in the conference.
Keep in mind, Jerry York, the GOAT, only won the Spencer Penrose once, in 1977 at Clarkson. He went on to win 5 National Titles, but never again the Penrose.
I think it kinda tips towards him because he did it in his first year there. But yeah Nodak had 13 more conference points than they did last year and we had 24 more. Thats nearly twice as much improvement
Plus if you do it by percent improved it’s not close
What if you do it by percent of available improvement?
.396 – from .132 to .528. No other Division I team came even close to that level of improvement.
That’s Bonkers, Bonk!
(Sorry, had to do it. Too easy.)
NCHC undefeated in the NCAA tournament. Half of the remaining teams
And now they start playing each other
Hockey East went winless. B7G went 3-1 (and it’s glorious seeing everyone clowning on Penn state).
There’s been some chatter on Twitter the past few days hating on fans of NCHC teams for rooting for other teams in their conference to win. I say a rising tide lifts all boats, let a team from the national win it all (x8)
The NCHC has also outscored opponents 14-2 in the tournament. Just built different
That’s complete hogwash. The impact of realignment alone makes that thought crazy. Now, are Ohio State fans rooting with every ounce of their soul for Michigan to lose? Of course they are. But I can absolutely promise you that Gopher fans would root for ANY Big Ten team to beat North Dakota. There’s just too many years of hockey hatred there.
Exactly. I can kind of understand them because NCHC fans are in a different situation than big ten fans. If I were a fan of a big ten team i wouldn’t care for the other teams to win because they don’t have the factor of tournament play dominance (7 of the last 9 titles) the NCHC does that makes fans want to root for the continuation of. And as a hockey only conference it’s not like we have strong rivalries that span over football, bball, etc that would make the hatred stronger.
But yeah, there was a survey done a couple years ago about who fans consider their biggest rival to be and I don’t think it ended up being an NCHC team for us. We have more beef with old ccha foes, BU (for obvious reasons), in state schools (some gopher fan even said people should root for the schools in their state to win-I would never be pulling for BG or OSU), etc. I don’t even think people were mad when WMU won it last year, it was just proof that a MAC school like us could do it.
Plus as much as i absolutely detest nodak them winning would be more beneficial to Miami than a team out east or in the b7g because it makes our conference look better. Any time a recent Miami player has been asked why they decided to go to practically the worst team in the country they’ve said playing in the best conference as one of the reasons and all these tournament wins back that up.
I don’t blame other fans for rooting against conference foes but it does make sense for the NCHC at least. I think it’s an interesting discussion though. In most other sports i follow I certainly would take no pride in division or conference foes winning, I’d hate it.
I wanted to say all this to the haters on twitter but there’s a character limit![]()
Crazy OT goal from Wisconsin to knock off MSU
And nodak is up 3-0 after the first
They are absolutely crushing Quinnipiac
Win 5-0, haven’t allowed a goal in the tournament yet. NCHC now outscoring opponents 19-2.
Crazy to think we were so close to beating them in grand forks both nights.
Very good chance the national championship will be NCHC vs NCHC
Duluth looking to make a comeback against Michigan… 4-3 with 3 minutes left
Edit: they had some great chances with the extra attacker but didn’t put it in. B1G vs NCHC showdown in Vegas
Was a great almost comeback.
I don’t root against any NCHC teams come tournament time.
I couldn’t say that when Michigan and Miami were in the CCHA.
