And he played well- Trick and other team defectors take note!
Only 19 FBS guys reached the 1,000-yard mark in receiving. That seems rather low.
Texasâ top 4 RB now all in the portal
Thatâs nuts!
They need to reimplement the sitting out for a year for each transfer as fewer schools will pay for a player to sit out and even fewer players will want to sit out.
The only way that returns is with collective bargaining as it was found in violation of anti-trust. I donât see a universe where players agree to reinstate that rule in negotiations.
Curious what it will cost to sign these portal players? Well here are the numbers from ON3:
QB market: $750K to $4 million
DL market: $500K to $1.5 million
OL market: $500K to $1.2 million
WR market: $400K to $1 million
RB market: $350K to $1 million
DB market: $300K to $850K
What do fans make. Not saying Iâd switch teams but just curious.
Nothing.
Nada.
Nichts.
Zilch.
Non.
I have a friend who is pushing 4 bills. Heâs like 6 foot 7. Played Oline so he was always big and now heâs an absolute wall. If I was a nIL leader, Iâd recruit him as a fan. If he was on tv all nuded up covered in school appropriate paint in the stands cheering his ass off, youâd see that on tv and be like ânow thereâs a school worth talking about.â Running man used to show up at our sporting events in the 90âs. I can absolutely imagine fans getting paid to cheer if they meet certain parameters.
I guess I will put these thoughts here. Miami has a decent amount of roster payroll money. Having it is just step one. The important part, the most important part, is using it wisely. We need to be wise on who we give it to, both those currently on the roster, and for potential players we bring in, and how much. And I have alluded to this before, we need to have contracts with these players with something akin to liquidated damage clauses that protect us in the case of another situation like Finn. And to the extent possible, for both the sake of the player and Miami, the contracts need to set forth some basic expectations. And I think that should include language about finishing out the current season, through bowl play. Coaches have contracts with these type terms. If we are now going to pay players like employees, they should have them too. I also think as to players on the current team, they need to be individualized tied in to performance shown, and/or reasonably anticipated. And each player should be told why their amount is âXâ versus someone else playing the same position that got âYâ. It would be naive to think players donât talk and compare. Just assume that is happening. But to give an entire position group, say 100K a piece, whatever position group that may be, without regard to actual on and off field performance, to me is irresponsible on the part of Miami. Simply put, I am saying, athletics now needs to be run like the business it is. I know I will take flak on these comments but I have been mulling them over all weekend as I gathered information.
Performance based contracts are not happening, but we should never give a lump sum upfront to build in more protections.
Iâd like to avoid offering anyone with only 1 year of eligibility left, they have no incentive to buy in, and a final year in the MAC isnât going to launch a pro career anymore. Think weâve had good results with guys who have been brought in with 2+ years remaining
Blues, this makes sense if thatâs what the market is doing. But if the âWild Westâ (otherwise known as our competition) doesnât have these parameters, caveats and contracts, how is little ole Miami going to get anyone on board with it? These kids are all about grabbing the money and theyâll go somewhere with guaranteed cash. I hate this reality, but I would likely advise my own child to do the same.
As I said, I know I would take some flak, but simply handing out money to me, is a waste of money, and if I were an alum donating, I would be hesitant to do so in that scenario. Matter of fact, I believe Troy Aikman recently expressed a similar opinion re UCLA.
To be clear, I was not calling for âperformance based contractsâ as picking specific numbers is virtually impossible, and in some respects unfair. I am talking about certain expectations that are completely within the players control-attending meetings, staying the entire season etc.
Depending on which of their ranking systems you utilized, Adam Trick is either ON3âs 24th or 40th ranked player in the entire portal. He is the 5th ranked edge rusher. He will be handsomely paid.
Drew Terrill is ON3âs 218th ranked player in the portal, and 12th ranked OT.
I figured that one was coming. ![]()
âŚthe dream is gone
Ugh another one I didnt expect.
