=>Communist!
Given @yanksalex is entirely correct about value here, whatâs your reasoning for the lowest paid coach? Or are you ignoring grad assistants, creative staff, etc?
=>Do grad assistants count?
No, full-time assistant coach.
Why are assistants the metric?
No player should bw paid more than any coach.
Period.
Why? Every pro sports league pays at least some players more than the head coach
Itâs a sad state of affairs, this college sports thing.
Why? There are several industries where individual contributors are paid more than managers. Sports is one of them.
Politely, because they shouldnât be isnât really an answer. And again, why full time assistants?
Perhaps itâs old-school in me trying to believe that college sports should a quasi-amateur system where an 19-22 year old athlete just shouldnât be paid anymore than their scholarship and I can see cost of living. Players making more than a million and sometimes much more just shouldnât happen at any level other than pro.
The portal officially opens today. We know from reports Trick, Weaver, Terrill, Lukasa, Evans all in the portal. I am still a little confused on Kam Perryâs status. Miami has several holes to fill: interior DL (even before Lukasa entered portal), OL (even before Terrill entered portal), now WR and DB. And it will be interesting to see what moves we make as far as QB.
Kam Perry has made it clear enough from his social media that his name is going in. He obviously wants to see what kind of value he derives on the open market.
I think it would be great if
- the university president made more than the head coach
- Players werent paid more than scholarship and cost of living
- Student fees didnt have to subsidize the cost of the program
But that is the division 3 model and I certainly dont want Miami to be division 3 so in that case I want our NIL to be as high as possible and pay as much as we can to have a good team
Also what are the salaries of our 10 assistant coaches nowadays ? I remember in the early 2000s it wasnt much but I am not sure now. I think Martin is close to $1m
Vox: Did you catch the announcers ( on U of Miami vs OSU telecast) laughing when one of the âcanes said â weâve spent every day at the football facility from 6 am to night getting ready for this gameâ! commentator: â so much for classesâ. Itâs a big farce!
Perhaps a lesser division would make football sense until the NCAA melts to down to 30-40 â schoolsâ.3-5 years?
Cignetti has probably figured out the NIL formula best of anyone. Football is a team sport, a team of mercenaries is rarely gonna work at the highest level. Bring in a few stars but mostly focus on getting high IQ/character guys who fit the system/culture. Doesnât hurt for the staff to be great at talent ID/development and game management, and the program has enough cash to retain/acquire who you need.
Final exams were over on 12/10 at the U.
They did not have any classes to attend or studies required for 3 weeks leading up to that game.
Yes, they could have been preparing from 6am to midnight.
However, arenât there some type of restrictions on practice and preparation? Perhaps that only applies to formal team activities but even thenâŚ
My dad is an administrator at a P4 school, and I get the sense that âif athletics needs it, athletics will get it.â So I do not believe these schools would let a trivial thing like academics impact their preparation for a CFP game.
Then add WR to the list for sure with Weaver and Perry in the portal. Be nice to pick up at least one WR. I still think our top needs in no particular order are interior DL, OL, and QB.
Per 247Scout Perry is in the portal. If we gave him any damn money between the MACC and the bowl game, he better return it. I know other Miami players received checks in that time frame.
Miami has 8 in the portal per 247Scout as of 1/2/26 at 941amCT: Jameill Hamm, Trick, Weaver, Perry, Terrill, Yarbrough, Evans, Lukasa.
OU has 10
Toledo 15
WMU 5
As of 945am on 1/2/26, ON3 has 1777 in the portal. Differing from 247Scout, ON3 only has 4 Miami players in the portal. I believe 247Scoutâs 8 is correct.
