Toledo just hired some dude named Mike Jacobs after one year at FCS Mercer. In his last game, they were thumped 47-0 by South Dakota. Oof. Eddie George sitting up in BG licking his chops right now.
Ohio’s HC Brian Smith is currently on paid administrative leave. With their bowl game looming, and in the midst of all of the recruiting deadlines going on in the next month or so.
Jacobs was 32-9 over three plus years at D2 powerhouse Lenoir-Rhyne and 20-6 at Mercer in two seasons. He’s an Ohio State football alum like Eddie and he grew up in Maumee. Probably not a bad hire by Toledo.
Toledo is pretty excited about Jacobs:
Man, can’t a guy talk some spit about a rival school’s coaching hire without y’all glazing his nuts? Dang.
All right, you win. He’s the next Saban, and he’s gonna destroy us. Happy? Are you all happy now? Huh???!!!
Hahaha
We got two of his players from Mercer. One made the stop that helped us beat UC. I thank him for the gift!
If you read between the lines of that article, it is a takedown of Jason Candle and all of his underachieving. Put the right coach in there, and Toledo could be a problem.
He’s also the 2x SoCon coach of the year and 94-23 overall in a career in D2 and FCS. I expect he’ll do well, weird loss notwithstanding.
Did all his good players opt out of their final game? Maybe they all had earaches?
This has been in the works for a couple years now. But look for Michigan to potentially make a run at him and convince Kyle to give 5 more years cleaning things up in Ann Arbor
I’m wondering if Whittingham stepping down the same week Utah announced they are selling off to PE is a coincidence…
Morgan Scalley has long been identified as Utah’s coach in waiting.
There’s been rumblings all year that this would be his last.
BTW, with Whittingham out, Chuck is now tied for 5th longest active tenure in FBS.
Anyone else perceive a situation where Michigan decides it’s seen enough, fires Warde Manual and hires a certain well-respected AD from a school with football, basketball and hockey?
Are you predicting Brad Bates is going to get the UM job?
He had those responsibilities at two D1 schools.
And a Michigan grad to boot!
Don Treadwell to Michigan.
Not exactly…
Jon Sumrall and his wife are making a 100K donation to Tulane’s Green Wave Talent Fund, Tulane’s main fund to pay players. Nice gesture by Sumrall.
