2025-26 Coaching Carousel

Lane Kiffin and Luke Fickell are the perfect paradigm of the CFB Peter Principle.

Florida is set to hire Tulane’s Jon Sumrall

Auburn is expected to hire USF’s Alex Golesh

The bricks are falling quickly. I read Kiffin has contacted Orgeron to join him at LSU, if he goes there.

It will be interesting to see where Ole Miss turns.
Many of the names have just come off the board.

Michigan State is firing Jonathan Smith. He went 1-8 in the Big Ten this season and his overall record in two seasons was 9-15. He’s set to be owed $33 million.

Hope the Spartans enjoy the Brian Kelly experience

Ole Miss has announced DC Pete Golding as the permanent replacement for Kiffin. Apparently Golding kept the entire defensive staff together, and they won’t be going to LSU.

EDIT: rumor now is that NONE of Kiffin’s staff is coming along, and all are staying at Ole Miss.

Kiffin reportedly ā€œdemandedā€ to coach Ole Miss in the CFP and threatened to ā€œpoachā€ players and staff from the team if he wasn’t allowed.

Good on Ole Miss to tell Kiffin to pound sand after he jerked them around, even by college football standards he’s a total shyster. Can’t wait for his inevitable LSU breakup in 2028 when Louisiana’s senator has to ram through an act of Congress to pay for his $100M buyout.

Ole Miss chancellor should have stood up in this meeting with Kiffin, grabbed his crotch and said ā€œPoach thisā€. ā€œNow get the fuck out of my officeā€

Aren’t they under a sanction or two? I wonder if the Chuckster might be a candidate

I’m thinking candle might be a candidate

I would think Candle before Chuck but honestly I doubt either would seriously be considered

Thamel: There’s early momentum on keeping staff at Ole Miss for new coach Pete Golding. QB coach Joe Judge, a longtime NFL coordinator and head coach, has agreed to stay on staff. Ole Miss officials are being aggressive with staff salaries, as there’s a high focus on retention.

Judge’s role hasn’t been formalized yet, but Ole Miss officials and Golding made clear early on he was a priority staff member to stay in Oxford. He coached Trinidad Chambliss and Jaxson Dart while in Oxford.

Worse. Apparently, the hot rumor in East Lansing is that they cleared out Smith to hire Pat Fitzgerald.

Here’s to Kiffin being left on the tarmac of Baton Rouge Int’l Airport, in 3 years, to find his own ride home….

Per Chris Solari and Graham Couch of the Detroit Free Press , the Spartans plan to hire former Northwestern head coach Pat Fitzgerald. The reported hire comes just hours after Michigan State fired.
