I have to say this transferring within conference is a bit surprising (more than I would expect, but I suppose easier in some regard than getting the attention out of conference - just interesting as this would have been blocked in the past)…with Hunter I get it, last year and back “home.”
He went to Princeton HS here, correct?
PS. Anyone know if the guys who transferred out landed anywhere, yet?

Cesare Edwards, 6’9” who “scored over 1,000 career points and grabbed over 800 career rebounds … Averaged 17.2 points, 15.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 3.0 blocks per game as a senior under head coach Yusef English, while being named Region Co-Player of the Year, 4A Boys SCBCA All-State, North-South All-Star game selection and a nominee for McDonalds All-American”. And was talented enough to play 23 games this past season on a squad that made it to the Sweet 16 and went 27-10 against competition far better than the MAC.
I disagree that we’re “set” in any position, let alone PF or C. We lost 6 guys to the transfer portal; our top player graduated; and we have 5 incoming freshman who have never played a minute of college basketball. We have Mirambeau…but we should be far from declaring ourself “set” in any position. We’re one injury away from being incredibly unset.
I dont think it is fair to rule out someone because of their stats at Xavier. Xavier was a top 15 team in the country.
I am hearing high praise for the South Carolina RB we got in the transfer portal. His stats at South Carolina look a lot like 2 points and 1 rebound per game
I agree that we are far from “set” anywhere. That being said - I’m far from disappointed with getting a guy that scores 12 a game and shoots 47% from 3 in MAC play. More shooters creates more space. More space creates a team that is tough to guard.
With the Fab Five coming in, it will still be far from an experienced team. I’m sure Steele saw the value of having a guy with experience, regardless of his stats. I saw a Tweet about Hunter from Richburg-“make the last year the best year”. I’m sure that’s the staff’s goal.
Edwards did have a solid HS career. And I agree we aren’t set at PF, but my point is Edwards isn’t really viable as a PF. So then he’s playing center and we have Mirambeaux, Morris, and Potter (Kotecki too) there already. Does Edwards add a skillset that any of them don’t possess? From everything I’ve watched and read, he plays below average defense, but is a solid inside scoring threat.
Quote from a Xavier SBNation article:
Edwards finished 27.9% of his possessions with a turnover, highest of anyone on the team that played 20 games and higher than everyone but Kam Craft overall. His hands are questionable at best. If you need to drop a baby off an apartment building to a Xavier player, Edwards may not be your guy. Cesare also has a bad habit of nodding off defensively. He’s actually pretty good when defending his man, but Terrell Burden scored a layup in the Kennesaw State game about two feet from where Edwards was facing the wrong direction.
That’s not the type of center I want when we run our offense through the 5. Can a guy with bad hands who turns the ball over more than 1 out of every 4 possessions really fit into this offense? He might be talented, but I just can’t see that he adds anything that fits what Miami is trying to do. And if the solution is to play him at the 4, then you can’t have him and Ipsaro on the court at the same time.
