Got it.
I can’t imagine Trent Dilfer would be a good head coach. The players would hate him quickly. It’s amazing how terrified ADs and presidents are of hiring someone without name recognition.
Dilfer: “You listen to me! I was one of the 53 best players on a Super Bowl-winning roster!”
It’s official! He takes over on December 2.
Dilfer’s more like Dabo or Hugh without Hugh’s baggage. I was exposed to him a little in Seattle…he came through the tragic loss of a child. Very FCA.
It’s being reported that Deion Sanders is telling people that he’ll make his announcement on Sunday. Reportedly considering Colorado, Cincinnati, and USF.
Count me as a skeptic. He’s made his name as a coach at Jackson St by beating the weakest teams in FCS and they’ve pretty badly underperformed their talent level relative to the competition. He’s an elite recruiter, but it seems like the coordinator hires will be vitally important at a level where he can’t overwhelm the opposition with talent.
Yeah, the Dilfer hiring would only make some sense if he went to UAB (and even then it’d be a stretch).bit almost feels like the Alabama Board of Trustees ia trying to kill the program again with a bad hire, though with their new stadium that won’t happen.
Looking at the Prime Time effect on attendance at Jackson State. They have been averaging over 42,000 fans at home games over the last two seasons. Even on the road this year they’ve drawn an average of 32,000 fans. Montana typically has the highest attendance numbers in the FCS, around 24k per home game.
Sanders has been great for elevating interest in the SWAC and HBCU athletics, and because of that I really hope he stays at Jackson State for a few more years.
KSU’s Sean Lewis is starting to gain some traction for the UC opening. Local reporters here in Cincy think he might be the front runner.
Tom Herman hired at FAU. Would have thought that he’d be a contender for the UC job, or at least something better than FAU.
or Chuck’s new OC.
That bearded loser? YES! HIRE HIM TODAY.
Why? Based off his sub-.500 career record, including his losing record this year? Yeah he runs a fast offense but he’s had exactly one winning season and that season’s record is 7-6. Hell, Chuck has a better resume.
Look a little deeper. Kent schedules the 3 biggest money games they can get every year so they start off 0-3. Also, the style of play that he runs will appeal to some recruits and many fans. Plus, any time Kent football does well, it is unusual and takes a great coaching effort to make them a winner.
To your point, even at Kent his won loss record is not normally enough to get a great job… The last time Kent had real success their coach immediately got a Big Ten job at Purdue.
If Lewis goes to UC will CM go to Kent!
Does Chuck even harbor feelings of wanting to move up to the big time? Unless he achieves a little more success here at Miami I could even see him leaving someday for a $1 mil plus DC job at a P5 if he could get one again.
I was wrong about Luke Fickell and Sean Lewis is a good coach but I would feel like that is an under achievement in the hiring circles. If I was UC I would much rather have Sanders
Me too! That is a huge miss for UC. No way FAU had more resources. Tells me maybe they have Neon on their radar.
I’m not so sure. Sanders seems like a high risk/high reward coach. And with any type of great season it’ll be fleeting as he moves on to a SEC or ACC job (I would assume). I could see UC wanting a bit more longevity in their next coach.
If you take out his one rebuilding year (he only needed one rebuilding year as opposed to Chuck’s two), his career record is 22-21 (18-10). If you take out no hope buy games, it becomes 22-12 (18-10). And they’ve actually been reasonably competitive in some of those no hope buy games. He’s doing that at probably the second or third hardest job in the conference.
It seems like hurry up offenses have declined in effectiveness over the past couple seasons, so it’s fair to question whether that success will continue, but purely from a resume standpoint he’s clearly deserving.
I am reading that Coastal Carolina’s coach might leave for Liberty. I guess it is a money thing but that is taking a backwards step in conferences
