2021-22 Basketball Coaching Carousel

“UNLV will add John Cooper as an assistant. Cooper had been on former SMU head coach Tim Jankovich since 2000. He has been the head coach at Miami (Ohio) and Tennessee State as well as an assistant coach at Oklahoma State, South Carolina, Oregon and Auburn. The official announcement is coming this week.”

How about Jermaine Henderson? Any news?

Thad Matta is hiring Greg Oden and Jon Diebler as assistants at Butler.

Edit: presumably in a GA type role, not full assistant.

Our assistant coach measures up to Greg.

BIG news: Jon Rothstein reports that Jay Wright is stepping down as head coach of Villanova, and Fordham coach Kyle Neptune, who was a longtime Wright assistant until this past season at Fordham, will take over.

Here’s the article on Kyle Neptune. Fordham can’t get a break.

You are so right. Fordham is the perennial doormat of the A10, and Neptune had finally gotten them turned around. Now, they are back to the drawing board.

There was a great article a few years back, about how Fordham’s move to the A10 killed their basketball program and they can’t figure how to get back to Patriot League, where they were before.

Fordham had a really good program in the Patriot League. NCAA bid now and again, above .500. Then they bite off more than they can chew.

Sounds oddly familiar, don’t it?

Remember him?

  1. I hear Jermaine Henderson will soonbe joining the CSU staff as Robinson’s top assistant. The name should be familiar to CSU and MAC basketball fans. Henderrson was an assistant under Gary Waters at CSU from 2015-17. He was an assistant under Charlie Coles at Miami (1999-2012) and at Marshall (2013-15). He has been the top assistant to Bruce Weber at Kansas State for the last five seasons.

Things have gone to hell since Elton left the Plain Dealer.

Hope he doesn’t tell his brother…

Tell him what…hey I’m making 1.mil less than you did @ X…ha.

This is good…if Steele succeeds he’ll be staying for a bit @ Miami…coaching against his brother.

Lots of good side stories if we could get X on schedule.

This makes no sense this late in the game

Maybe they have someone in mind.

It makes some sense if a buyout provision in his contract went down on May 1.

AD says he waited until all players had completed final exams so it would not be a distraction to them. However, there are only 4 scholarship players that were scheduled to return for next year.

It is hard to make sense of the timing.

He was on coach Coles staff the last year Charlie was running the program. I was surprised at the time he didn’t get the job (went to Cooper) as his history at Butler in the early days of their reemergence was impressive. Looks like he ran out of gas.
