I think CMU is the only 1 loss MAC team we don’t play, no idea how a tiebreaker would work if we both finish 7-1
Yes, us losing to Ohio and then CMU winning out was the scenario I wasn’t sure about. CMU does not play Ohio so all 3 of us could end 7-1
i would credit Finn for the no sacks. There were plays were WMU came in so fast and he snuck away
We are running the table!!!
Ohio away will be the biggest test, beat them and I think we go 8-0

You forgot to mention that after that he said “I don’t get it” under his breath😂
I spent way too much time looking into this, but it does appear there is a scenario where we could miss the championship game at 7-1 in this scenario.
Following the tiebreakers posted here:
1/2:
Combined head-to-head win percentage among the tied teams if all tied teams are common opponents.
If all the tied teams are not common opponents, the tied team that defeated each of the other tied teams advances.
Both not applicable
3/4:
Win percentage versus all common opponents.
Win percentage versus common opponents based upon their order of finish (overall conference win percentage, with ties broken) and proceeding through other common opponents based upon their order of finish.
Not applicable, all would be undefeated against EMU/WMU/Buffalo which are the common opponents.
5:
Combined conference win percentage of conference opponents
For this, we can ignore common opponents, so it comes down to which set of these opponents have the fewest conference losses:
| Miami | Ohio | CMU |
|---|---|---|
| Ohio | Miami | Toledo |
| Toledo | Ball St | Kent St |
| Ball St | BGSU | Akron |
| Akron | NIU | BGSU |
| NIU | UMass | UMass |
If I’ve done the games out correctly, the best to worst case ranges for each team is:
Miami: 16 to 24 losses
Ohio: 17 to 27 losses
CMU: 22 to 29 losses.
There are scenarios remaining there where CMU/Ohio would play in Detroit, but seems like we should be the favorites to advance from that tiebreaker.
I would be pretty surprised if any MAC team closes out 4-0 (including us, but we can hope!). I think we go 3-1 and finish as the lone 7-1 team and there is a tiebreaker clusterfuck at 6-2 (CMU, WMU, OU…maybe even Toledo if our loss is to them).
We need to avoid being in that mess which we are very capable of doing if we can split OU and Toledo remaining games.
The 3rd quarter was classic Chuck. I have no idea what got into him in the 4th quarter. ![]()
Great comeback win
They are really enjoying the winning now. They know just how much better it feels than the feeling they had after leaving the potential UNLV win on the field.
Chuck in the postgame interview said Dom is the most clutch kicker he’s seen as a coach, which is saying something considering who we’ve had the past decade.
Congrats to the team and the staff- much better play calling over the last few games. Special mention to Finn for avoiding multiple potential sacks and connecting on passes in tight coverage ( could we recruit the WMU DB coach - very impressive man coverage- do we not have the talent or coaching ability to play better man coverage ). Also special congrats to Dom for going 4/4 on FG’s inciuding the 50 yd plus connection to seal the win- another MU Groza winner ?For OU the OL play has to improve and ST kickoff coverage has to get better and be or more consistent. Will we have Washington and Walters and the rest of our injured players back ( execpt Tracy ) for OU?
With large horns filled with draft beer for all!
I thought yesterday’s win was terrific for a number of reasons. Showing the ability to come from behind and make it happen may be the most important. I thought Western had control of the game until the extra special version of Finn showed up. I thought he had played well, buying into the system, not trying to force things too much and leading as he should. Yesterday showed why we have a chance to win the whole thing. The plays he can make are frightening from his scrambling ability to throwing the deep ball. Perry made 2 great catches, but Finn made 2 really good throws. The rest of the team has to know that with Finn, anything’s possible.
I can see why Chuck likes Western’s QB. He played smart, can run and throw and is tough. I thought it was interesting that Western ran the QB more than Buckley. They probably don’t get their first TD if Walters is in the game. But I was impressed with Western. We had to beat them. That was the most solid Western team I’ve seen since they were rowing the boat.
