Withrow Court Memories

Miami Saturday Look Back…

I feel like a large part of this could be a “normal students having to guard freak athletes in intramural hoops and getting destroyed” kind of thread. So I’ll start…

I once had to guard Darrel Hunter. At the time he was literally the fastest D back (going by his 40 time) in Miami history. It went rather poorly for me.

Somebody else on his team of football players dunked from one step inside the foul line. We lost by 50.

So if I’m hearing you correctly, you didn’t save the teen center.
I admire you in admitting that. Most sports stories from the past aggrandize. You tell the truth.
If they ever make Breakin’ 4, they won’t save the teen center. It will become condos.

Similar memories. I just can’t remember which football players they were, but they beat us bad. And we had a pretty good team.

I was on a team with a couple of track guys ( one who was about 6’6”” and later qualified for the Olympics). Also a few football players and some baseball guys. If I stayed out of the way after I made the first pass we did o k.

Used to shoot around at Withrow with Eric Newsome, Ron Hunter and Harper. They would all show up. Couple other players too.

I have played a lot of pickup ball over the years including some games with NBA and CBA players. No one took me to school like Eric Newsome! I couldn’t stay in front of him if my life depended on it.

I used to play pickup there, but luckily when I was there I was playing against the women’s team and/or offensive linemen. Thankfully we weren’t playing a physical game so I was able to hold my own.
