What a 2024-25 sports season!

Miami football, softball, men’s basketball, and baseball all made their respective MAC title games, with softball and baseball winning. Additionally:

•Football won 9 games, including a blowout bowl win over Colorado St.
•Softball won their 4th straight MACC and upset UNC in the NCAA Tournament.
•Men’s basketball set a program record with 25 wins.
•Baseball wins MAC regular season and tournament after finishing 8th just two seasons ago.
•Women’s basketball wins 19 games and earns a WNIT bid following a 9-20 season.

For some reason they have been poked fun at on this board but in the last Monday email there was a mention that we were leading in both the Reese and Jacoby Trophies for All-Sports Excellence.

Imo they’re valuable to show how an entire athletic program performs in a given school year, but winning is cold comfort for a school that excels in Olympic sports but doesn’t do much in the ones that “matter”. Winning 9/25 in football/basketball with MAC title appearances takes the sarcasm out a bit, versus a year like 2020-21 when we disappointed in the major sports but still won the Reece.

Would Snoop Dog knowing where Miami is count as a win?

Now Men’s hockey needs to join this list

Hockey seems likely to make a marked improvement next season, but it is going to take longer to get it where we all want it to be.
