Welcome to Miami, Travis Steele

I still prefer DICK as lead assistant

I was thinking Jack started well but it sort of fizzled by year 2 or 3.

I can’t help from being optimistic about the impact Steele will have on the program…he is already considered an excellent recruiter, has been in our market for 14 years, and also hopefully has learned from his mistakes in his first HC gig at a high profile program.

The quality of recruiting is an interesting metric to figure out.

What is clear is that Miami did not beat the top MAC schools over the past 5 years (Toledo, Buffalo, Ohio, Akron, Kent). Was it because those schools out-recruited Miami or out-coached?

A little of both…certainly our coaching or defensive philosophy was flawed…as fans we all saw it, and Steele’s early comments support it.

There was some talent and we had some shooters, but we need to get a lot better is Travis’ take, meaning he sees that there are players that can do more than what they are contributing.

I expect Steele to work with Kamari big time…and hopefully convince Lairy and Dae Dae to return.

Roster with all reclassifications shown for now (i.e., they don’t turn Ames into Frosh, rather he would be a Senior, then 5th year, etc if stayed or scholarship honored).

Dae listed as senior and Lairy listed as 5th year.

I thought Dae Dae and White were in the portal. Also, who is Will Stevens?

They are apparently, but does not mean they are gone yet (unless it does, I thought you were able to return ?). Depending on Steele’s interaction, how much he sells them on staying, if he’s adding a player that can help, etc.

Dae Dae may stay…not sure on White’s take or what he’s looking for…Dae Dae people wonder if OSU is an option?

As of now they are on the roster with reclassification of class, first that I have seen, so maybe there’s hope.

May not be updated yet…but you never know, as I thought his name was already in the portal, two-three days ago?

The portal just allows other coaches to contact you without breaking NCAA regulations. You don’t have to leave the school.

It’s also an internal tool for coaches/AD staff only (although some coaches give their logins to journalists) so as fans we can’t view it. Not sure what you’re looking at (247?) but it would have to be updated manually from reports - for a smaller school I’m guessing that is inconsistent.

I’m looking at 247, as noted, no players listed and our roster appears updated to a degree, I assume some current assistants being interviewed (typical of how the process works).

As I said, no guarantee it’s accurate, but other MAC teams…the players are visible (Skogman for UB, Sparks for Ball St., Ali Ali for Akron)…none shown for Miami.

I wouldn’t have told that person to ā€œshut the hell upā€ if they didn’t tell Harper and Mason to ā€œshut the f–k up.ā€

I think both Dae Dae and White indicated portalling on twitter

Maybe you struggle with reading, but I believe he said they need to grow up, not that they needed to shut up. And I’m going to continue questioning your reading comprehension since your post has nothing to do with Travis Steele being named the head men’s basketball coach at Miami.

Back to our regularly scheduled content, there are a couple brothers in the transfer portal looking to land at the same school together. I believe Steele recruited both while at X. Would be great to get them.

Again, who is Will Stevens? His bio only shows his high school info but he’s listed as an upperclassman.

Walk on. He was on the team last season but I think only saw the court during garbage time.

A post was merged into an existing topic: Jermaine Henderson

And Harper!

Yes, they have a Covid sibling graduate hardship exemption. Gives them a seventh year. Last name Weathers.

I was hoping for the Davis brothers at Louisville, even if it might be a stretch.

I love the idea that walkon’s enter the portal. This portal world is so odd.

VC has them gone…so we shall see, odd that they remain on the apparent, updated roster.
