Very Sad News - RIP DICK

I don’t think redhawk11 could’ve said it much better. The few times I was able to see him and talk with him were a real treat. I would’ve loved to have played for and coached with Dick. His postings improved my basketball IQ. I will greatly miss his insight this year as we look toward our first NCAA berth since 2007. Thanks, Dick, for the great conversations through the years.

This. I’ve learned significantly more about basketball reading Dick’s posts (dating back to the mid 2000s when I was on campus). Even if you didn’t always agree with his take, he absolutely bled Miami red and white. We throw around the term “legend” too much, but he certainly was one.

Also, his Vegas recaps deserve to be bound and published, not because he was partying the whole time, but rather he was explaining how he could live in casinos for 6+ weeks for free only betting on sports and video poker.

Rest in peace good sir. I hope to someday BS about hoops with you on the other side.

One of the things I look forward to at the end of the day is to log on to MHT and Dick’s posts were often one of the highlights of the stream of posts- his devotion to Miami athletics was incredible , We should consider establishing a scholarship in Dick’s name for a coach’s position or in another area connected with Miami athletics.

I propose that the Men’s Basketball forum be named in his honor. I never had the pleasure of meeting Dick in-person, but he seemed like a fan of our Miami hoops like few in this world.

Seconded. @JiveHawk can you make this happen?

I’m a huge fan of the idea. The other I’ll propose is women’s basketball, given his long coaching history?

We lost a good man and a great Miamian. I enjoyed many impromptu chats with Dick at home games and a few on the road. For many years now, my vision of retirement is traveling to many road games like Dick did. Rest in peace, Dick - Love and Honor.

Dick ,at one point, had attended every MAC basketball tourney. I believe that streak continued. We were talking in Cleveland once and at that point he and I were probably the only two but I promptly traveled to the ACC tournament the next year. His streak kept going.

Like many on here, I never had the pleasure of meeting DICK, but his input to this (and predecessor) board was wonderful. Rest Easy :folded_hands:

I wanted to wait until I got home to post, but honestly I’m at a loss for words. I have nothing to add to what has already been said here about Dick. I hope we can all aspire to been great Miami fans like Dick.

I first met Dick in either 2004 or 2005. Shared a hotel room with him and two other Hawktalkers in DC for the 2009 Frozen Four. Like everyone else I was completely devastated with our loss in the Frozen Four final. I think Dick talked me off the proverbial ledge that night in a way only he could do. RIP Dick.

You were at main Treasury and didn’t get us a few bags of NIL money? Missed opportunity.

2009… pre-NIL, though IIRC Dick was working on a plan to rob the place
