A sad, sad day. This place will never be the same without Dick.
DICk was one of the true legendary Miami fans. As all of us on this board know, there aren’t many Miami sports fans. There are even fewer with the passion and dedication that DICK possessed.
I often joked that if in 40 years I was still traveling to Miami games and going to Vegas like him I’d be happy.
Few people I can think of who has been at Miami road trips and big games as consistently as him.
In Madison last month, our group ran into him while heading to a bar pregame. He was sitting on a corner ledge outside the stadium with some others here and we spent probably 20-30 minutes talking rather than going to the bar. Glad we had that last chance meeting.
Rip DICK
This is sad and tragic news! While I never met Dick in person, we have crossed paths on numerous occasions on this board related to Miami sports. We will miss his knowledge and his positive attitude. Condolences to Dick’s family and friends. RIP, Dick.
I wish I had met him at a game over the years. He’s been one of my favorite people to interact with on the different iterations of this forum over the years. I always enjoyed his posts, and cracking a joke to him or even occasionally busting his chops. And he could always do the same. The depth of his knowledge was something I appreciated and admired. I can think of a number of times a thread would meander, and he’d tell a Miami sports story about an event decades ago. Those were some of my favorites.
Before a game, I think nearly all of us here look forward to his pregame breakdowns. They were always better and far more indepth than anything you’ll find on a proper sports site. The man was probably Miami sports’ biggest supporter, and a cornerstone of this place. This is a tremendous loss for all of us. I miss him already.
Incredibly sad news. Never met him but one of the MHT members I would have loved to have sat down and talked to. A Miami legend.
Ah crap. Not the news I wanted to wake up to today or any day. Dick and I crossed paths many times, from Colorado to West Point to foggy Bowling Green. He always greeted my wife and me with a smile. I will not be at today’s game, but next week I will give a salute as I walk by his season ticket seat. I can only imagine that he passed with the words “love and honor” on his lips. Smile down upon us my friend.
Best post ever on MHT.
Well, fudge. Very glad I was able to meet him at a Miami road hoops game at Wright State probably 20 years ago. Always loved his respectful discussion here on MHT regarding the Reds. Hope Miami does a remembrance at the football game today.
Agree. A great post. I never had the opportunity to spend time w Dick, either, but felt I knew him from his posts and long-standing Miami insights. We were both at a lot of the same travel games over the years before I interacted with him on this board, and greatly enjoyed our sharing of memories on these games. A great loss.
It’s fitting that the next game is against a team from Vegas. Win one for DICK!
DICK always said one of his favorite things to do was to walk through a college campus on the way to that day’s football game. Today, I will start at Stanton and walk through our campus down to Yager thinking of him.
RIP. He recently posted here. Shocking loss
I just talked with David Sayler, and he said that Miami was trying to do a tribute to DICK during today’s football game, but that they needed to get permission from his family.
Miami probably won’t get permission in time, so the tribute likely will not happen until next week’s homecoming game
Dick was one of my best friends and I am absolutely devastated by this news. I just sent him an email yesterday about possibly heading uptown after the game and grab a bite to eat like we usually do. When I didn’t here back from him I knew something was wrong. Miami games won’t quite be the same without him there. His passion and loyalty to the university was amazing. RIP Dick. ![]()
That was a beautiful tribute, David. Thanks for sharing your experiences with Dick.
Someone more creative than me should make a Fathead picture of Dick and place it in his seat next week.
Never had the good fortune of meeting Dick in person, my only knowledge of him being from here at MHT. But what was obvious from his posts was his passion for all things Miami. Rest in peace Dick.
What rotten news. Dick was the very best of us, and as y’all’s stories show, being his friend helped bring out the best in you too. I hope the university can pay proper tribute to him and that we all aspire to be better Miamians like he’d want us to be.
