All the kids were counting down the time just as Hunter dribbled and launched. Every one of those kids will want to come back for the next game.
Buzzer Beater.
Epic!
Nice 30 second highlight spot of our game on the 6pm SportsCenter. One benefit to playing a Friday afternoon game.
We were right behind Miamiâs bench, somehow ended up with seats 2 rows in front of Coach Hedric, and it was great to see that the players all seemed to be in good spirits throughout the game, especially Kotecki.
Coach Hed!!!
Such a gentleman
Indeed. I used to occasionally watch his practices after nearby classes.
Fun to watch.
Hedric was the coach when I was a student at Miami then he retired and Jerry Peirson took over. Great guy.
Here is my quick two cents on this game. We didnât play a particularly good or clean game and still beat a quality opponent. We finally started attacking the rim in the second half, which we should have done in the first. That was good. However, we missed numerous bunnies, layups, and putbacks that could have given us a lead. The bad. But we overcame that. The good. Our defense was not particularly good. But we gritted through and overcame that. The good. So this game gives me some cause for excitement. We beat a solid to good mid-major while not playing anywhere close to our best game. And Greg Crawford is awesome to watch on the sidelines. And Kotecki hands down wins the best team cheerleader award every game.
I would use the word inconsistent. And I felt the same way against WSU. In the half court against both teams we had a decent amount of very good defensive possessions, holding both teams to a contested fade away jumper. I think as a coach you take that every trip. WSU did a good job hitting them, but we also gave up way too many fast breaks points from turnovers. Vermont didnât have as many opportunities in the fast break and that made the difference.
We did 2 things really well yesterday. First, we hung around and didnât get down on our ourselves. Vermont has multiple opportunities to put us away and they didnât take advantage of those. When the door opened, we came through it and took advantage of it. Second, we didnât make the stupid defensive mistakes we made against Wright St. Weâre young, weâre going to make mistakes, but we shouldnât make mistakes that youâre taught to avoid in middle school. Vermont made some tough shots. We didnât give up many easy looks.
To be fair, this was a pretty decent matchup on paper, especially when looking at things weâre not good at. Vermont is in the bottom 10 in Division 1 forcing turnovers, so it wasnât surprising we only turned the ball over 6 times. Also, Vermont is near the bottom in offensive rebounding, another weakness of ours. So Vermont didnât exploit our 2 biggest weaknesses.
Still, the vibe is positive after beating a team like Vermont. Hunter made 2 big shots, but Ipsaro had the big assist, the step back 3 that barely moved the net, and managed to get the foul without any time running off the clock. Overall, for a young team to hang in there after the tough road stretch they had, thatâs encouraging.
Jive, I think you are selling this group a little short. Patience with the freshmen I get. Cooper, for example had a couple of really good games, then some poor performances. With the exception of Ipsaro, they are still feeling their way. But we have 3 5th year players playing big minutes and it is now or never for those guys, plus one junior and 2 sophomores who are ready to compete right now. Add Ipsaro to those 6 guys and I see a nucleus of 7 guys that are good enough to be better than middle of the pack in this yearâs MAC. How fast the other freshmen progress is an unknown ; that is where we should be patient.
This yearâs MAC appears to me to be down from our usual level. I see a top group of 2, Akron and Kent. Teams like Ohio, Toledo,Ball State, BG, NIU, and Miami are all hard to differentiate. I see no real reason that we canât beat these teams. Our wins over Vermont and at Marshall are as good as anything this group of teamâs have accomplished. I am hoping that a few years from now we can look back at that Vermont win as a turning point. We are quite capable of getting off to a great start in the MAC when you look at our schedule. Now is the time to push hard.
=>The cock with the walk.
We were all thinking it:

When I try to watch our game against Vermont on ESPN plus, I get âthis event has not started yetâ. According to ESPN, this only means they have not yet posted the game for replay. Anybody else have this experience?
Works for me
I experienced being at the game. But if it hasnât started yet, the large hadron collider must be be fritzing again at CERN
Since March 10, 2007 until my last day on Earth, I will always remember that Cedrick Middletonâs FT success rate was only 69% heading into the final 6.6 seconds of the MAC tournament championship game.
Just got another spot on tonightâs sportcenter with SVP (as part of bad beats for hitting the over)
