We played way harder on defense. We missed a lot of shots but kept the turnovers low
Isparos 3 to cut it to one was just as impressive as Hunters miracle at the end.

You know I coached for 20 years and those comments were exactly what I would have been telling my team. Not ripping anybody, just explaining what we needed to do to take the next step. Now experienced coaches mostly see things about the same and I would guess that my comments were points made by our staff to our guys. Certainly our defensive effort was by far our best this season. And we really did play with great determination down the stretch today. Just like the womenâs game last night we had 3 clutch tough, spectacular 3 point shots down the stretch. One by Ipsaro and two be Darweshi Hunter. What a great win!!
I wrote down a few comments during the game. Here they are:
First half offensive rebounding was almost nonexistent for both teams. Great box outs discouraged even trying.
Twice we fouled a 3 point shooter.
Horrible free throw shootingâŚboth teams. Unusual to beat a good team when you canât make big free throws.
We never finished a single possible 3 point play. I would spend time everyday hammering and fouling guys as they drive to the bucket, emphasizing take the contact and then shoot the ball.
In the first half Vermont found out that we could hit open threes. So they made an adjustment and crowded our shooters and forced us to drive and we did a terrible job of finishing on all those opportunities although both Boltman and Hunter made their last layups. We need work on finishing through contact.
Vermont started using a high pick and roll with their big man to get Ipsaro switched on the big, then went to the big. We ever really solved that.
What a tough gritty freshman Ipsaro is. That jump ball and that 3 were plays you expect from your veterans, not your freshman. We donât stay in the game without his toughness and competitiveness.
Our other 4 freshman were not good today. Vermont makes you pay for every fundamental thing they did wrong.
