Wow! Too bad about Coldiron!
Interesting, Dzioban went from Ray Guy Watch list to not traveling to Miami and second string on depth chart this week.
UMASS appears to have some size in the defensive trenches…I guess CM is trying to counter with some size to see if run game can get going at all.
Ty Wise at MLB as well…when do we see Malachi Clark , or did he get a snap at the Canes?
We have some significant injuries and unclear if they will be 100% or play. There is Hugo DT, Puma starting QB, Jerry Roberts and a few nicked up. Know you have your star TE out but don’t see any ill damage for playing a P5/4 team.
If Miami beats UMASS, that doesn’t eliminate any of the criticism CM has taken over this Hurricanes loss. As I said before, when has CM beaten a team with superior talent, where his coaching made a difference? I honestly can’t think of one. We should be UMASS, we are at least as talented as UMASS and likely more so. If CM has redemption games this year they are UC and Toledo.
He doesn’t try to beat teams with superior talent. If he did, the game plan wouldn’t be “run up the middle, run up the middle, try to complete a tough pass play on 3rd and long.”
He clearly doesn’t care whether he wins those games, hence the comments over the years such as…
-
OSU has the first 85 picks at recess.
-
That it was a “great day” for Miami to get blown out by Notre Dame.
-
Following Brett’s injury vs Kentucky when he said it’s almost better to get blown out from the beginning against P5 teams so you can be justified in pulling starters rather than have them play the whole game.
He treats these as glorified (and televised) scrimmages. Again, I don’t understand it because if you knock off a big boy, or at least you routinely show you’re competitive with P5 teams, I would think that would be extremely attractive in the eyes of a P5 Athletic Director looking for a new coach. But for whatever reason, CM just (literally and figuratively) punts on those games.
That said, he doesn’t take that approach with games when there isn’t a huge difference in talent. So if he goes with the same “run, run, incomplete pass, punt” strategy over and over again and has no success vs. UMass, then I’d be concerned.
@muhawk I think you nailed CM’s 10 year coaching strategy at Miami. That’s precisely why he’s still at Miami and not a head coach at the P5 level.
I’ve taken my UNCW lady friend to 11 Miami football games since her first trip to Oxford in 2011. Six of those games have been against G5 teams.
She’s only seen us play competitive football in four of those games - WKU in Oxford, at Army for the two OT game, at Minnesota and the BG debacle with the goal line fumble and 99 yard BG TD run. We lost all of them.
Ironically, the only win she’s seen was the last Treadwell team’s 2011 win over Army in Oxford.
She’s still going to games with me and donning red and white but she’s beginning to believe there is a parallel between Miami football fans and Einstein’s theory on insanity.
What on God’s green earth makes you think we’ll beat either UC or Toledo?
I didn’t say we would. I said those are his “redemption games” in my opinion for this season. No where did I say we would win.
Chris Vaninni of The Athletic has dropped us to 106, one place behind UMass. He has us the 38th ranked team in G5 and the 6th best team in the MAC. Vaninni is probably the most knowledgeable football writer in the country when it comes to MAC programs.
There are 16 G5 teams ranked in the Top 70. No MAC team is among that group of 16.
We are by no sane analysis any kind of competitive mid-major FBS program after ten years of “rebuilding.” No one respects Miami of Ohio anymore and that lack of respect is due to our sub-mediocre performance over the past 20 years. Vaninni has Miami of Florida ranked at #68 and they just abused us like we should beat an FCS opponent.
How long will this continue?
Its occurred to me that most everyone here could save themselves a lot of time and stress by copying and pasting their comments from the last 5-6 years.
