Has anyone notice that Coach always mentions that one of his assistants should have been a head coach long ago….kind of like he’s trying to set him up to be the next coach of Miami if he leaves for bigger things?
Yep. That’s a better and more honest way of doing it than resigning three days before the season starts like Tony Bennett or Bruce Pearl.
Coaches do this all the time, because that’s how they got there head coaching job from moving up in the ranks or recommendations. Not uncommon at all. Most people in the coaching profession are very competitive and want to be the best which means not being an assistant forever. That’s why coaches move on and upward to different places all the time. Guys start as a volunteer assistant, move up to paid assistant, then to top assistant or assistant to the head coach. Head coaches will always push for their guys to be a head coach somewhere because usually that means the program is good and winning. That and how many guys would want to work for someone who would say their assistants shouldn’t be head coaches somewhere.
