Behind a paywall, but Toledo currently has the fifth ranked recruiting class in the country for 2027. It’s still very early and they obviously won’t end at 5, but still an impressive haul. Two top 200 players. Bryce Curry is a Lakota West kid (don’t know if we were in on him) and a four star from Westerville. Toledo has always recruited high school well, but they must have real money to play with.
Blows my mind that they still haven’t made the Dance in my lifetime. I’m not that young anymore.
It is kind of unbelievable given the roster talent they have year to year. And the resources which are the best in the MAC. Historically (or at least since Kowalczyk has been there) their MO has been great regular seasons and choke in the conference tournament, but the last couple years they’ve had pretty mediocre regular seasons. Maybe Tod K is losing his fastball a little. Although, to be fair, they were playing really well at the end of last season and should have beaten Akron in the championship game.
From 2017-2025 they won six out of seven MAC regular season championships and have zero tournament appearances to show for it. Insane.
Toledo plays no D.
Definitely been their problem the last two years. In particular 24-25. Worst defensive team I’ve ever seen. I remember their semi-final game against Akron which was essentially a layup line.
capture the attention while you can…fall 2027 is far far away
Well, yeah, they’re the kings of winning when it doesn’t matter. When the game is actually important, you can count on Toledo to disappear into their shell like a frightened turtle. Haven’t done anything since the Carter administration.
I will repeat here what I said on X: I will be shocked if both ever take the floor for Toledo. Like many mid major verbals these are place holders until a better offer comes along. Nice publicity for Toledo, but if they never play for the Rockets, it is nothing more than a feel good propaganda issue.
It does not appear that we offered Bryce Curry.
I trust there was a good reason that the staff did not see a fit with us.
I think the kid from WNHS will. My alma mater. There’s a legacy of kids from North going to UT. Not familiar with Curry. North has also been dominant in the state which boosts players’ profiles.
