ESPN+ , but you need to get to the game. Less than an inch of snow now predicted for Tuesday around Oxford, nothing North of 70. Toledo has embarrassed and humiliated us with 22 consecutive wins, including a disgusting 34 point home loss last year. Where we once had a huge lead in the series, the Rockets now lead 67-64.
Tod Kowalcsk has been there 14 years and has eight 20 win seasons, including the last 4. His record at Toledo is 278-181. In each of those 4 seasons the Rockets won the regular season title but has not won a MAC tournament or appeared in the NCAA since the very first MAC tournament back in 1980.
This is a young Toledo team starting 3 sophomores every game and one spot that has rotated between a sophomore and a freshman. One of their stars from last year, Maddux Jr, had 24 points for Xavier yesterday in their loss at Villanova.
Starters
6-1 Soph Sonny Wilson 15.6 points and 5 rebounds
6-6 Soph Sam Lewis 15.3 and 5
6-7 235lb Soph Javon Simmons 12.3 and 6.6
5th year transfer from Buffalo Isaiah Adams 10.5/3.7
Either 6-3 Soph Bryce Ford 7.5 or
6-9 FR Jaylan Ouwinga 3.6.
This year the Rockets are 15-8 (8-2), while Miami is 18-5 (9-1). So Toledo is just one game behind us and this is our only meeting this season. Winner would have a tiebreaker over the loser. They won their 5th game in a row Saturday at home, coming from 16 points down to beat a good James Madison team 72-69.
Toledo fan here. Not sure what to expect in this game. Eventually the long streak has to be broken. Unfathomable to think it’ll last much longer. I attended the Miami/OU game and was impressed with Miami’s team this year. Noticed that potter stood at end of bench wearing a back brace when not in the game. Is he going to play tomorrow?
Here is the latest Accuweather forecast for Oxford. 1-3 inches with the odds tilting towards the lower number as it snows off and on this afternoon. Storm moves out before 6:00. It seems the farther South, the more snow. Going Notrth, not much.
Eaton is predicting less than an inch, basically nothing North of I-70. So I am going, but I think I will avoid the hills of 732 and take 127 to 73.
Great moments are born from great opportunities. That’s what we have here tonight. That’s what we’ve earned here tonight. One game. If we played them 23 times, they might win 22. But not this game. Not tonight. Tonight we run with them. Tonight we stay with them and we shut them down because we can. Tonight, we are the second best basketball team in the MAC.
