Toledo at Miami at 1:00 Saturday ESPN3

First game of a DH with the men, looking for a big crowd. Toledo is 18-4 (9-2) and in third place in the MAC behind BG and BSU who are both 10-1. Toledo will play both in a few weeks. Miami is 9-15 (4-7) and currently in a 4 way tie for places 7 through10 in the MAC. Top 8 make it to Cleveland. The Rockets are currently on a 6 game winning streak and ran up a 25 point halftime lead when we played them at UT earlier in the season.

Toledo has two Seniors who were both First team All MAC last season. 5-10 SR forward Quinesha Lockett recently passed Peyton Scott as the active leader in career scoring in the MAC. Both have over 1700 points and both have another year of eligibility because of Covid. Lockett is 4th in the MAC in scoring at 17.7ppg.

5-7 SR PG Sophia Wiard was also first team All MAC last year. For the last two years she has led the MAC in assist to TO ratio and is currently not only leading the MAC again, she is 4th in the nation at 2.91. She averages 10.8ppg , as does 5-10 JR Sammy Mikonowicz.

Head coach Tricia Cullop is 311-162 in 15 years at Toledo, and 434 career wins. Toledo has led the MAC in attendance for a couple of decades and is annually in the top 30 in the nation.

For Miami 6-2 SR Amani Freeman has played her best basketball of her career lately, having 16 points and 10 rebounds vs WM, plus fouling out and shutting down Western’s star big girl Thursday night. Ivy Wolf still leads the MAC and is 10th in the nation in ft%.She is third in the MAC in scoring at 17.8ppg while both Peyton Scott and Maddie Cluse are tied for 14th in the MAC at 14.4ppg. Cluse has led the team in scoring and rebounds the last two games.

One thing I just thought of about our DH tomorrow surely never happened before. Both of our opponents, UT and CMU, won on the road at Michigan this year!!

Down a couple at the half. Two really bad defensive possessions towards the end or we may have lead.

Ok, now down 12 after a 16-2 run for Toledo. Back to the old turn it over when ever possible mode. A lot of hustle the first half but same type of errors. Toledo’s talent taking over.

Every team has turnovers. It’s the time and “quality “ of ours that disturbs me. I realize that there is no depth but sometimes a coach needs to take a player out after one of those brain dead passes. More than that, the offense often leads to minimal movement, thus nobody is available to receive a pass.

Toledo had 3 girls off the bench who combined for 27 points. Our bench combined for 2 points. Every time we go to the bench, we lose ground to Toledo, same with many of the other MAC teams. Coach and her staff have had 4 recruiting seasons. Two of her 5 starters were recruited and signed by the previous staff. We only really have 3 girls from her recruiting classes that are good enough at this point to compete and win in this conference.
