Tickets for UC game

I drove in at 9:25 and no one was directing anyone to any specific areas. I picked a spot and parked. About an hour later I saw some guys were directing traffic to the Millett side of the lot.

There were actually quite a few open spots when we walked through Millett lot at 11:40am and they werenā€™t letting anyone else park in the lot. I found that strange.

In general I was very happy with how Miamiā€™s staff handled the large crowd. Plenty of vendors and food options to be had and yes there were lines (thatā€™s what happens at crowded events) but nothing crazy.

Seemed like the Oxford/Miami cops struggled with some traffic near sycamore and the lots, but we parked uptown and simply walked down the hill past a lot of stopped cars (mostly UC fans) not knowing where to park.

Really hope everyone enjoyed the day minus game result and I was proud of the Miami community as a whole.

Parkingā€¦.I got to town around 10:20 planning on parking somewhere between uptown ( planning on eating uptown after the game) and the stadium. Every thing was full, so I headed to the other end of town looking for spots I always used for hockey. All full. Even the last street in town ( running in front of the student rec center now has a bike lane where I used to park for free. I finally got in the long stop and go on 27 heading eventually to Bonham Road parking and figured it might take an hour. I was thinking about parking at Krogers if I could get there. As I passed a Miami parking lot by the theater next to the old student union I saw two open spots and I pulled in there and got the last one. Now I know that had to be a a lot for passes only but I checked about 10 cars and saw no passes and others were getting out of their cars to walk towards Yager so I figured Miami would ignore illegal parking. Walking to the game I saw all kinds of cars parked where there was yellow paint on the curb. When I crossed a road with two traffic cops I talked with them and I said this is the worst parking day I have ever seen in Oxford and they agreed. One of them said ā€œMore cars than spots to park will do thatā€.

Anyway, walking uptown to eat I saw no tickets on illegally parked cars and after eating and walking back to my car there was no ticket for me or the other cars still there, so thanks to Miami and the town of Oxford for using some good common sense.

For those of you that do not regret the cancellation of the yearly UC series (mostly for understandable financial reasons), I still canā€™t help but note our attendance of 24K plus for the game.

We will be hard pressed to find a future home opponent that will give us that kind of turnout. One more reason to dislike how conference re-alignment and greed are killing off regional rivalries like the MU-UC series. Never thought I would see it happen.

A tip for getting out of town in a hurry to CVG:

I remember hearing stories about the traffic jams on 27 South after UC and Marshall games. Since I had a 6:59 pm flight on Delta to get back home after the game, I wanted to avoid that.

So I left my seat in Row 36 of Section 2 at 3:15, right after Cincy picked up the first down that derailed our train. I walked up the hill to the car at West Millett and jumped in my rental car, pulling out and turning right onto Sycamore at 3:35. I turned left at North Main and went all the way to Chestnut. I turned right and went to SR 732, turning left towards Reilly.

Warning: Donā€™t try this without GPS!

I drove through Reilly and followed a very convoluted route through the rolling moraine of Southwest Ohio until I reached I-74 East. I took it to I-275 South and drove past Lawrenceburg, crossed the big river into Kentucky and got off at the CVG exit,

I turned left, found a gas station, topped off the rental car and retraced my route to the rental car return onsite at the airport. I dropped off the car at 4:40 pm with time to spare to check in for my flight.

I had driven that route from the airport to Oxford for Alumni Weekend two years ago but o had forgotten how complex the directions are. But I would recommend it for anyone as an alternative to 27S or 73E.

Thanks for giving away a route only a few of us know and have been keeping secret for years. :joy:

I agree with Grumpy. NESCADAD is now persona non grata for this west side Cincinnatian!

Can anyone else tell me abot their experience parking in the Millett West lot? I am still weighing future options.

I generally go that way to/from Ross if i want to go to oxford nowadays. Traffic on 27 is getting annoying with developers putting in houses without the infrastructure first

I found it easy in and out (although we arrived at about 8am) and parked in second row. Tailgating was great - many grills and people sharing, nice rando kept giving my wife Jell-O shots, hung with friends in RV lot, etc. felt like big time football environment. Impossible to beat for $15. Iā€™ll pay $50-75 and not be as close next wk.

We can have this all the time. People just need to want it. I think John Lennon said the same thing about peace but I digress.

Not that we will see attendance like that again soon but there was plenty of parking in the south garage about 1 hour before kickoff.

I finally saw the ā€œGreat Red Lakeā€ I always envisionedā€¦a reflection of Nebraskaā€™s ā€œRed Sea.ā€

Thatā€™s where I always park. And the farther back you park the better off you are of being away from other vehicles

Sorry yā€™all, the secret is totally out. Google has taken me that way multiple times Iā€™ve flown into CVG heading to Oxford! However I donā€™t recommend it when itā€™s dark out, especially if you had never been that way before, and have astigmatism

California Road and Carolina Street are obviously streets placed on that route simply to confuse anyone trying to make it from CVG to Oxford.

Can any other HawkTalkers weigh in. Were you able to park where you wanted in the Millett lot?

Best atmosphere Iā€™ve seen in Oxford since the Marshall game in 1997 I believe. If it had been 15 degrees cooler, and a different outcome, it would have been one for the ages. But still an awesome experience.

8,000+ students, and they were very loud and dressed largely in Miami gear. It was awesome to see. Yes, I know a lot left, and we could use some originality and class in our cheers, but it is certainly something to build on.

I think everyone there got a taste of how great the sports atmosphere could be at Miami. That place felt electric in the beginning. Now we need to hope that itā€™s not just a once-a-decade occurrence.

I didnā€™t have a Millett pass. I had to drive really far away and walk a long way to the stadium. LOVED IT!

We were directed to a spot in West Millett but the lot was fairly full when we arrived at 10:25. Most of the tailgaters with tents were there earlier and I assume got their choice of spots.
