Losing 5-4 to the #3 team in the country is nothing to keep you head down at…just sucks having that three run lead and giving up those runs in the 4th
Great effort against a #3 team that had its back against the wall on its own home field. Miami managed to patch that effort together in a midnight road game with a depleted pitching staff. Keep this thing going 2K. It gives us great joy from February to May. Love and Honor! Next year take it to June!
Congrats to the women for another fantastic season, especially after a rough start. They represent the best of Miami on and off the field.
Miami has a lot of offense and experience returning next year - Spaid, Blaska, Kobayashi, Murphy, and Parks. A handful of underclassmen also saw a lot of playing time this season. With Pratt returning and Turner developing (I thought she showed some real toughness and skill), plus we have an all-state, conference MVP RHP (Hannah Organ) coming in the fall, Miami will be back in the tournament. I just wish the AD could come up with some cash for a full-time pitching coach. Coach Kumar is a great coach. I’d go to White Castle with her any day of the week.
At least they didn’t have to play Oklahoma today. Dang, Sooners put a hurt on the Aggies.
Virginia Tech beat Kentucky 9-2 in the first game today. They lead Kentucky 5-3 in the bottom of the 5th.
I have always felt that any time a Miami teams wins a game in the NCAA in any sport, that is a great season and a great accomplishment. Plus we lost to the #3 team in the nation on their home field by one run. This team might well be able to do it again next season.
VT won the second game 5-4 to advance and will be hosting a super regional.
Did you go to any of the games Dick? We would like to go next year. Quite exciting to watch.
First time I’ve ever watched a college softball game, and I must say I found it more entertaining than a baseball game. Fewer strikeouts, shorter base paths and a compact infield results in instant action compared to baseball. Also, the hustle and toughness was refreshing. There were some really athletic plays (our CF, VT’s 3B stand out to me).
And, finally, I like that our CF couldn’t stop smiling after making the diving catch. These players actually look like they’re having fun.
You’ve missed a lot of Miami fun the past few years, Max. Welcome to the fan club!
I’m trying to find a clip of Kobayashi’s diving highlight reel catch in left-center against VT. Anyone?
Crappy quality, but I found this.
Can always check Miami’s site…~1:58 min mark on…
I wonder what our final ranking will be
We were a 3 seed in our regional, right? So no higher than 33, and presumably a lot lower given that we got slotted against a 1 seed who was ranked #3 going in.
If BUGS was going to be our main competition next year, they have already lost their HC and stud pitcher:
BOWLING GREEN — Bowling Green State University’s softball program is experiencing a major shake-up following two key departures, including from the reigning Mid-American Conference pitcher of the year.
Payton Gottshall, who has pitched three perfect games in her career, has entered the transfer portal, she confirmed to The Blade on Tuesday.
This move was prompted not long after head coach Sarah Willis announced her resignation to become the new head coach at Bradley University.
“We are saddened by the departure of Coach Willis but grateful for all of her efforts leading the BGSU softball program,” BGSU athletic director Bob Moosbrugger said in a press release.
Willis posted a 162-177 record in seven seasons as BGSU’s coach. She guided the Falcons to a 34-21 mark and an appearance in the MAC tournament championship this past season. The Falcons went on to win two games in the National Invitational Softball Championship postseason tournament.
In the press release regarding Willis, Moosbrugger said that “a national search for the next leader of BGSU will start immediately.”
A departure of Gottshall could spark a massive swing for the program, which has been on an upswing largely due to her success inside the circle. Gottshall became BGSU’s career leader in strikeouts with 784 through her sophomore season and most recently received MAC pitcher of the year, All-MAC first team, and National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-Mideast Region Second Team recognitions.
Gottshall registered a 27-13 record with a 1.63 earned-run average in 253⅓ innings this season. She struck out 374 batters, and opponents hit .170 off of her.
In her three-year career, she has posted a 58-30 record with a 1.77 ERA.
I read the article and discovered a hidden message with it. From the BG coach and departing pitcher! It said: “this campus is ugly as sin and there isn’t a tree within sight. Get us the hell out of here.” Good thing I took a Victorian literature class at old MU or I would have missed it. I believe it was call “Victorian acrostics” but it’s been a while.
