The future of Miami vs. UC

WKU…

Ohio State, Alabama, LSU, and Georgia - Big time road foes 2023-2026.

Wow do I hate that type of scheduling. We already play 8 mac teams and you want to add another mac type opponent

But I appreciate other people have that type of schedule

And your opinion might be better than mine

I would love to play three 2 for 1s vs p5 that work and one fcs at home. I would do a 2 for 1 with uc

I like Ohio’s schedule this year. They had a marquee game in week zero at FBS G5 San Diego State. Then they hosted FCS Long Island followed by another FBS G5 road trip to FAU. This week they’ve got Iowa State from the Big 12 coming to Athens. Apparently they can make it work with two long G5 road trips, an FCS and a home game with a P5. Maybe this was an odd year with no road payday gsme. They have more flexibility than Miami because they don’t have an annual commitment to a (now) P5 rival.

To balance out this season perhaps, they’ve do have five P5 games on the schedule in 24 and 25 including a visit to Peden by WVU.

brokering this Miami-UC deal was the worst decision in this made by David Sayler… and that includes hiring Owens and Hendrix

When UC demands this series stays at either Nippert or PBS, the only appropriate responses from Miami are “GFY”, “LMFAO”, or “Wut?”.

PBS is a dump and does nothing for Miami. If we stoop to playing at PBS as a “home” game, then Miami should demand ALL ticket revenue as the home team.

The UC student section was obnoxious the LAST time we attended at PBS.

Keep in mind we were supposed to have UC play in Oxford in 2020 but were screwed by Covid.

I would be interested to see the financials behind the deal tho…

WKU wants the big pay days…

Let it go. The “rivalry” is not longer a rivalry. UC has been willing to let go of the past to make the strides it has made. Miami needs to move on too.

The last time I looked Miami-UC were tied for second for most games played against each other in college football. We trail only Wisconsin-Minnesota. It would be a BIG decision to stop playing this game in light of its history.

If it is really that big of a decision, then MU would hypothetically leverage that point to negotiate a better deal. That said, how big of a deal is it in actuality just to let it go?

Frankly, Miami loses more than it gains in the current scenario. Our need to honor tradition holds us back. I love tradition, but am tired of watching MU slip and lose ground in so many metrics.

My preference is that we continue to play UC if we can find an acceptable financial arrangement in doing so…UC will likely settle in to be a middling B12 team, so a money game against them may offer a chance at an occasional upset.
Getting a mil plus to play an hour away from campus in our backyard still provides some benefits.

That said, not a big fan of just playing UC in Nippert every year, so maybe we have to consider playing them every year or two (u less we can somehow get a game in Oxford in a 2 or 3 for one basis.). I am not a big fan of playing at PBS although obviously I don’t know the specifics of the potential financial benefits…

Look at Indiana vs OSU or Indiana vs Michigan - way worse in consecutive losses…

We need to keep this game going - maybe they will continue the 1:1:1 format which is basically 2 homes games for them (and split revenue at PBS) or do all at PBS with split revenue?

Not really. Miami and UC are two different programs on two completely different paths. Maybe in 10 years or so when the ACC and B12 join the G7, we can revisit an intermittent series, but theres no purpose in keeping the series going. Its not like Miami will loose a ton of money from donors…

“Oldest alums” - we were owning this until the last 16 years. There is hope to at least be competitive with them again. They are not OSU/Michigan/Georgia/Alabama/USC, etc…

It looks like WKU has a 1:1 with UC on that schedule.

It would be a big mistake and loses lots of history to have this end. Victory Bell is one of oldest trophies! There are other P5 rivalries with much worse lopsided recent streaks.

It would be an absolute shame for the game to go away. The sport has robbed tradition from its fans for decades now and this has persevered. I’d love to keep it even if I have a hard time really feeling invested in the Bell as a true rivalry.

That said, PBS is a dump when you’re playing in front of, let’s just say, 50k fans. The two schools don’t rock the house for it and UC shouldn’t be going to MAC schools anymore. UC clearly wants as many home games as possible and that means it’s roughly going to go forward with home games against Miami and an FCS school each year and then rotate a P5 home/home. I imagine the next contract will be UC offering up the going rate for an FBS road game in perpetuity or leave it. They’ll see no difference in replacing Miami with another regional MAC school. I don’t think UC fans would either, to be honest. That said, I’d rather see the game at home every year as the opener, ditch FCS and play rotating home/home games with p5s. Still, I can’t imagine UC actually agreeing to play at Yager again once the current contract ends. Time will tell.

I like the two at UC for one at MU model after the current contract expires if two conditions are met. One is that we need to beat them at least once during the current contract. Two is that we need get a suitable P5 payday out of the two we play at Nippert. Since Nippert is only a 40k seat stadium, more than a million might be too much. If we can’t beat them during the current contract I would recommend just scheduling them for an occasional close buy game rather than locking ourselves into a local loss every season.
