The attendance numbers announced on broadcasts often don’t pass the eye test. Here’s a look at scanned ticket data across 55 FBS teams and why it matters.
Definitely reflects the negative impact on attendance of midweek games. MAC and CUSA programs take the biggest hit. Interesting that UC is the worst in P4.
Anybody out there have any clue how many season tickets we sell for football???
MACTION games really kill our numbers on this survey. Most of the time on weekend games when they announce 20,000 (or what ever) at the games it looks like about that many could be in the stands. But MACTION games with 2367 hearty soles in the big stands (what a pathetic sight) and 17 students show up in the stands for November games vs the number of season ticket holders (like me) who often don’t show up drives up the numbers.
Not disagreeing that the mid week games look empty but here are the announced attendances last year including a beautiful day for EMU. We had 5 Saturday games last year

Nothing looks all that great
The stands were packed the last time we hosted UC. If the game is important, students will come. Basketball showed this. If we’re 5-3 (4-1) and we’re hosting central in the snow on a Tuesday, they will not go. Important probably means:
0 total losses early season or
1 total loss late season or
Final weekend and MAC champ on the line and good weather (?)
Obv this is not comprehensive, but these are my rough priors for whether students would go. You have to be a better option than a shorter walk to brick, who will serve you pitchers
The student stands were packed for the last Uc game but that did include the Uc band. Still 8500 students. The other side was NOT packed especially when you consider the UC crowd. I had an upper view and i would say maybe 2/3rd full. Maybe 60%
